Chapter 9 Captivating Eyes

  • 9. Captivating Eyes
  • Wynter's behavior was out of character, as she snapped at the stranger in front of her. Only then did she get a decent view of his face. She couldn't deny that he was incredibly attractive, the most attractive person she had ever seen.
  • He resembled a Greek deity, with a strong jawline, a pointed nose, and a bit of stubble covering his handsome face. However, his eyes were what truly captivated Wynter. They were the most mesmerizing eyes she had ever seen, not just because of their outward beauty but also because they seemed to hold a multitude of emotions within them.
  • "I am, however, it seems that the tag fits you better," the stranger retorted angrily, furrowing his brow. Wynter was both irritated and puzzled by his remarks. "Huh? What do you mean?" she said, frowning.
  • "If you can't tell by my condition, I'm really blind, but I think you'd need your eyes tested first for not walking correctly and then for blaming the person you should be grateful for," the person in front of her responded.
  • Wynter was completely taken aback when she realized that his attention wasn't directly on her but slightly turned towards her right side, as if he were speaking to someone beside her. She couldn't believe he was blind; he seemed flawless and wasn't using a cane or wearing glasses. Wynter waved her hand in front of her, trying to see if he was telling the truth.
  • "If you are done examining your doubts, I have important things to talk about. I guess I'm in a vet clinic," the guy said. Wynter was once again startled, unable to comprehend how he had predicted her behavior and why he was accustomed to others judging him that way.
  • "You are, indeed. How may I assist you?" Wynter asked.
  • "I do not want a nurse to help me. I'd rather have a professional or a surgeon look at this issue," he answered angrily.
  • Wynter became enraged once again, puzzled by the stranger's attitude and his refusal to accept help from a nurse.
  • "Excuse me, you are speaking to a doctor and the founder of this institution, and even if you are speaking to a nurse, please be courteous. They work here, too, and they deserve the same respect as everyone else," Wynter frowned.
  • "Whatever. I have my pet in my car; she hasn't eaten anything since the morning, so I wanted her examined."
  • That helped Wynter relax a little. It was her responsibility to check on the helpless animal and determine what was wrong with it.
  • "Can you tell me where it is?" Wynter asked.
  • "She's in my vehicle," he said. "Please seek someone to assist me." For the first time, Wynter suspected he had a tender spot for his pet, demonstrating how vital its health was to him.
  • "Let me help you," Wynter said.
  • Despite his irritation, he accepted the offer and took her outdoors.
  • "I think there's a car over there." This was enough to prove that he was actually blind because he was pointing in the wrong direction, where Wynter's Audi stood.
  • "Is that the black SUV?" Wynter asked, and he responded with a nod.
  • Wynter pondered why he hadn't requested his driver to bring his pet inside, which was quickly addressed when an elderly gentleman got out of the vehicle. He wouldn't have carried a hefty pet if that were the case.
  • Wynter gave the guy a warm smile and nodded as he opened the door for her.
  • Wynter was taken aback when he saw another adorable chow chow puppy inside. She recognized that she was a female, and she seemed to be the same age as Ellias, although Elli had brown fur, this one had pure white fur.
  • He was cheerfully woofing and staring at her, evidently tempted by the beauty in front of him, but she wasn't reacting and seemed exhausted.
  • "What happened to you, sweetie? Let's get you checked out." Wynter drew the dog into her arms; she was thicker but smaller than Ellias, which provided her with experience lifting her effortlessly.
  • "She was in an accident two months ago and underwent surgery. She was fine the month before, but now she just looks exhausted all the time," Blue eyes responded with concern.
  • "Ah, I understand. Let's figure out what's going on with you," Wynter said gently as she carried the chow chow into her chamber.
  • The person followed, guided by the elderly gentleman. Wynter called for a nurse and asked them to wait outside.
  • She began by examining the dog, and she found no signs of pests. She administered a medication that could help if there was any internal pain or swelling.
  • As she prepared to leave and update the person on the dog's health, a strange sensation swept through her body.
  • "Is everything okay, Wynter?" the nurse inquired. She was close to her team and didn't mind being called by her first name.
  • "Nothing, just the name of the owner and some details about her, please!" Wynter requested.
  • Her stomach fluttered with butterflies. She realized she had been unkind to the person, even though he had done nothing to upset her.
  • Both her demeanor and health had taken a toll on her, and she regretted reacting angrily. She also thought about how distressing it must have been for the man to see his pet in that condition.
  • "No, why do you need my name? Just tell me what's up with my pet and let me leave," Wynter heard a voice shouting from outside. All thoughts of asking for his forgiveness disappeared. Even though Tessa was speaking calmly to him, he had the nerve to raise his voice at her. She was simply requesting his information for documentation, and he was being demanding.
  • She decided she had had enough. Her footsteps caught his attention as she quickly opened the door. His ears perked up, and he leaned in slightly towards her.
  • "I'm sorry, Mr. whatever-your-name-is," Wynter remarked sarcastically, "but we just need your details for our records as part of legal procedures, and rest assured, no one here is trying to profit from your name."
  • "Huh!" He became angry. "Fine, just tell me Bella is fine, and I'll answer your questions."
  • "Yes, she's perfectly fine, but she needs to be monitored for three days before she can go home," Wynter replied, still irritated with him.
  • "Okay, so what do you want to know?" he asked.
  • Wynter took Tessa's notebook and began jotting down notes for herself, signaling for Tessa to go inside and attend to other tasks.
  • "So, her name is Bella?" Wynter inquired, making notes.
  • "Yup," he confirmed.
  • "How old is she?"
  • "10 years," Bella was a bit younger, which explained her health condition, but she had Ellias, who was over 13 years old. Wynter thought it over. "And your name, please?" she asked with a touch of sarcasm.
  • He said, "Shadrach Reigns." Wynter's heart thumped as he heard his name. It had a nice ring to it.
  • Shadrach Reigns, you may leave Bella here for now. Feel free to visit her in the morning to check on her," Wynter said, closing the notebook. "Don't worry, she's in good hands."
  • "Th-thank you," Shadrach stammered nervously.
  • Bella meant the world to Shadrach, and seeing her unwell stirred up deep emotions within him.
  • "You're welcome," Wynter said as she led Ellias out of the room and asked Tessa to go with her to the observation area.
  • That day, Wynter drove Ellias home, keeping a close eye on Shadrach. She had moments of curiosity and moments of sadness, pondering his circumstances. Did he have anyone to care for him, or was he alone? At times, she felt empathy for him.
  • Upon returning home, Wynter's mother inquired about her day, as usual. Wynter wanted to mention her earlier feelings of nausea and dizziness, but those symptoms had long disappeared.
  • "Mama Iris, I had to respond to an emergency today, which took a long time and wore me out," Wynter pouted, still Sabrina's little girl at heart.
  • "Go pull your clothes out, I'll run you a nice bath to wash away all your tardiness," Sabrina said with a smile, planting a kiss on Wynter's forehead.
  • Wynter groaned but followed through. The bath refreshed her, soothing her tired muscles.
  • After blow-drying her hair and settling into bed, Wynter closed her eyes, only to see those mesmerizing blue orbs before her. She wished she could help but realized everyone carries their own burdens in this world. Sabrina's words echoed in her mind, reminding her to focus on her own challenges amidst the sea of others' struggles.
  • Despite trying to escape from those beautiful eyes, they persisted, wanting to convey a story. As she drifted off to sleep, for the first time, her dreams weren't plagued by betrayal or worries about the future. Instead, someone else filled her thoughts, offering a respite from her usual concerns.
