Chapter 7 Arrangements

  • 7. Arrangements
  • "Harris, you'd better take that box and put it in the appropriate place right away," Wynter snapped, issuing orders to him.
  • Three months had passed since the tragedy, and Wynter had moved on with her life, putting Sean behind her.
  • She came to the realization that letting go of Sean was the wisest choice as she matured. It was time to forget about him.
  • She understood that even if she had ended up with him, their future wouldn't have matched the one Wynter had envisioned. Therefore, she chose to raise the child alone without informing Sean of its existence.
  • Having completed the necessary legal procedures by presenting the case to their lawyer, they happily informed Wynter that she would be solely responsible for raising her baby.
  • So, a week after completing her internships, they were getting ready to open Wynter's veterinary clinic, which explained the chaos during the setup.
  • Her family was always there to assist her with anything she needed.
  • "Mama Iris, Where should I place this artifact?" Wynter asked, holding a bronze item in her hands.
  • Wynter accepted Sabrina's proposal to invest her assets in constructing a new veterinary clinic where she could work independently.
  • "I think it would look best on the wall next to your desk; there's an empty space there," Sabrina suggested.
  • Following Sabrina's advice, Wynter took the artifact and placed it on the shelf. A smile spread across her face as she arranged the artwork. Wynter was thrilled about embarking on her entrepreneurial journey and achieving self-sufficiency. With today being the exception, she had managed everything by herself. Eager to showcase the location to her family, they offered to help with some final touches.
  • Sabrina smiled, feeling relieved, as she observed her cheerful daughter. Wynter's initial days had been challenging; she had refused to eat or engage with anyone, much to Sabrina's frustration. Fortunately, as her internships commenced, she began to recover.
  • "Hey, Wyn Wyn, there are some Lego pieces in here." Hunter pulled out a box filled with Lego bricks.
  • "Oh, I did buy that for you while I was shopping for this, but I forgot to give it to you." Wynter grinned, playfully poking Hunter's nose.
  • "Look, Mama, Wyn Wyn got me a Lego set. We are keeping this, right?" Hunter eagerly asked Sabrina. Sabrina had banned Legos from their home after Hunter almost swallowed one. Since then, she has been fearful of having them around. Despite Hunter's insistence on having a set, Sabrina remained firm in her decision.
  • "Let's keep it, Mama Iris. Hunter is a big boy now, isn't he?" Wynter supported him. "He is a responsible man; he won't use it unless someone is nearby, right?" With Hunter giving her puppy dog eyes, Wynter encouraged him.
  • "You two have mastered the art of convincing me," Sabrina groaned.
  • "Does that mean yes?" Wynter's face lit up as she asked.
  • "Fine," Sabrina sighed and rolled her eyes.
  • "Yay!" Wynter and Hunter cheered, pumping their fists in delight.
  • Once they had finished arranging everything, Wynter settled down on the sofa opposite her desk.
  • "Phew, that was a lot of work." Ellias walked over and sat next to Wynter as she sighed. Wynter decided that she would take Ellias with her whenever she visited her clinic to help her learn and care for Ellias better.
  • The chow-chow beside her nuzzled into Wynter, seeking her affection. Wynter gently massaged his fur, and he snored contentedly.
  • "When will the other doctors and staff arrive?" Sabrina inquired as she sat down nearby.
  • "I believe they'll be starting in two days," Wynter responded, "and I think that's for the best."
  • Feeling exhausted, Wynter absentmindedly caressed her stomach, reveling in the sensation of touching her baby bump.
  • The anticipation of having a baby always fills her with excitement. Wynter has longed to be a mother, and the idea of welcoming a child has always enchanted her. She is confident in her ability to care for the baby independently and often reflects on her past thoughts of ending a young life before it began.
  • "What about the surgeon?" Sabrina queried.
  • "Oh, I had spoken to Dad, and he mentioned he has someone in mind," Wynter replied, picking up her phone to call Travis.
  • After a brief conversation, Travis informed her that a man named Ethan would be arriving that evening to meet with her, and they could discuss the necessary details together."
  • "Alright, Mama Iris, I'll catch you at home then." Sabrina, Hunter, and Harris headed out. Despite her weariness, Wynter needed to stay to meet with Ethan and ensure a smooth hospital operation the following day.
  • Once they departed, Wynter entered her room, which also featured a spacious area with a bed, a closet, a table, and a bathroom for her to recuperate after a long day.
  • She settled on her bed, contemplating resting or taking a short nap due to her early start that day. As she pondered, her thoughts drifted back to Sean. Travis had exhausted all efforts to locate him, but to no avail. Sean seemed to have vanished without a trace, leaving his whereabouts a mystery. Despite ongoing search efforts, little progress has been made. Wynter contemplated advising her father to cease the search, as finding Sean at this point seemed futile.
  • Ellias entered the room and snuggled up to Wynter, enveloping her in comfort.
  • "Ms. King... Miss King," a firm voice from outside roused Wynter from her thoughts.
  • Wynter grumbled and attempted to return to sleep, but the persistent voice calling her prevented her from drifting back into slumber.
  • "Who's there?" Wynter asked in a state of confusion, her mind still clouded with sleep.
  • After brushing her hair, Wynter ventured out of her room, rubbing her eyes to dispel the drowsiness that lingered. To her surprise, she discovered a strikingly handsome man lounging comfortably at her table, legs crossed. Assuming he was Ethan, she inquired, "Are you Mr. Ethan?" with a puzzled expression.
  • As their eyes met, Ethan's widened in astonishment at the sight of the captivating woman before him. "You're Wynter?" he managed to utter, his gaze fixed on her.
  • Confirming her identity with a nod, Wynter acknowledged, "That's me."
  • Ethan found himself entranced by Wynter's serene green eyes, considering her stunning appearance akin to an angel descended from paradise. With a grin, he jokingly remarked, "Why did I think you were some old lady?"
  • Wynter let out a sigh and rolled her eyes, sensing Ethan's flirtatious intentions. Despite his charm, Wynter maintained a guarded demeanor, unwilling to let anyone breach the protective barrier she had erected around herself.
  • "Maybe you conjured up that image in your head," Wynter retorted dryly, though a faint blush crept onto her cheeks. "And could you please keep your feet off my table?" she added, scrunching her nose in disapproval.
  • As Ethan rose from his seat and advanced towards her, he attempted to rectify his behavior with a touch of formality. "I beg your pardon for my lapse in manners, young lady," he proclaimed with an air of faux nobility, his attempt at sophistication coming off as slightly cheesy. "I haven't even greeted you properly. I'm Ethan, and I look forward to collaborating with you." Extending his hand towards Wynter, his gaze inadvertently drifted to her pronounced baby bump, causing a subtle furrow in his brow.
  • Observing the sorrow flicker in Ethan's vivid blue eyes, Wynter sensed his unspoken emotions, realizing he harbored feelings for her despite not envisioning a future together. Setting aside the unspoken tension, Wynter steered the conversation towards the task at hand, asking, "Wynter King, shall we discuss the project you're here for?"
  • Ethan nodded eagerly, a grin spreading across his face. Wynter took her seat, and Ethan settled across from her, ready to delve into the details. "So, do you have any experience in surgery?" Wynter inquired, initiating the discussion.
  • Ethan's proposition of partnership in the medical field intrigued Wynter, who had faced limitations due to space and resources in her healthcare endeavors. Ethan, adopting a professional tone reflective of his expertise, offered to invest his assets in the venture, allowing them to discuss profit-sharing arrangements rather than engaging in sales negotiations.
  • Considering Ethan's proposal, Wynter expressed her interest in having a partner who could share both the successes and failures of the business. Ethan, outlining their potential roles, suggested a division of responsibilities where he would focus on surgical procedures while Wynter managed basic check-ups, medications, and immunizations—a division that aligned with their respective strengths and preferences.
  • Although Wynter had reservations about surgical interventions, she found Ethan's specialization in surgeries complementary to her own skills. Embracing the collaborative approach, she agreed to the proposed partnership structure, recognizing the value of their combined expertise in enhancing the hospital's services and operations.
  • As their conversation progressed, Wynter discovered Ethan's amiable and insightful nature, appreciating his practical suggestions for hospital improvements. Impressed by his intelligence and affable personality, Wynter felt reassured about their potential collaboration, especially after witnessing Ethan's positive reaction to the facilities during the tour.
  • After finalizing their partnership discussion, Wynter planned for routine check-ups and minor treatments to be conducted on the hospital's main floor, reserving the floor above for surgical equipment and procedures as per her initial layout decisions.
  • Ethan, looking forward to further discussing his investment, proposed meeting again the next day, to which Wynter agreed with a nod before closing the hospital door. As she bid Ethan farewell, she reflected on their interaction, feeling content and optimistic about the potential friendship blossoming between them, akin to the close bond her mother shared with individuals like Chris and Mark, whom she fondly regarded as her siblings.
