Chapter 5

  • Chloe’s POV
  • "You..." Those were the only words that came out of my lips as I pointed at the man, he was the beggar I had offered my bed to last night, and worst of it all, he was the billionaire who was going to get married at the restaurant I worked at, the billionaire who everyone had talked about in the City.
  • I had seen his picture in the magazine Olivia normally brought home, Olivia was a huge fan of his and I would always roll my eyes at her whenever she praised him and said she would meet him in person one day, but I never once imagined I would be face to face with this man.
  • I rubbed my eyes to be sure I was not dreaming. How did I fail to recognize him last night? Could it be because he was drunk and not looking as handsome and stunning as he was right now? My head spins and I just couldn't believe I was right here and having him stare at me and me, at him.
  • "I left a phone number for you hoping you would contact me, but you didn't call." He said as he walked over to the chair at the corner of the room and sat down, crossing his legs, his eyes staring at my face and those eyes were dark but charming.
  • "Oh..." I mouthed trying hard to relieve myself of the shock I had felt just now. "I had forgotten about that number," I gasped for breath to focus. "I didn't see any need to call back and also I am grateful for your help earlier," I told him respectfully, he had returned the favor of last night by saving me, so we were even.
  • There were no traces of a smile on his face, his lips were pressed in a thin line as he touched the corner of his chin while I waited patiently for him to dismiss me since I had said my thanks, but what he said next shocked me.
  • "Chloe, you showed me kindness last night and you are a kind woman, so I was hoping you could assist me this time."
  • "Huh?" I blinked, not knowing how I could be of assistance to a man who owned so much wealth. I have heard Olivia speak a lot of this billionaire, not only Olivia but almost everyone I know.
  • What could I assist him with? It was funny that a man of his status would want me to help him.
  • He exhaled sharply and got up from the chair he had been sitting on. He strolled down the window and gazed out of the window with distant eyes that held sadness in them.
  • There was silence in the room and it was making me feel very uncomfortable, I wanted to leave, but I knew it would be disrespectful, plus he had something to say and I was also curious about what I would assist him with.
  • "Chloe, I know you have heard I was getting married just like everyone in this city knows." He turned to me again, my eyes were wide open and I was mentally trying to figure out where this conversation was heading.
  • "Yes, I heard about it." I didn't know if I was to respond, but I did, his presence and the look in his eyes were truly intimidating, but it wasn't like my supervisors, at least I could look into the eyes of this man and in his eyes was some feeling I couldn't describe.
  • "I am unable to contact my fiancée." This came as a surprise to me, was he not going to marry this week, how was he not able to communicate with the lady who had been the talk of the whole city? "Seeing how kind you are, I would like you to assist me, Chloe."
  • "I d-don't understand." I swallowed hard, gazing into the cold eyes of the man who was speaking, still trying to figure out what his intention was.
  • "You only need to be present at the wedding and I would find a way after the ceremony..." I raised my hands to stop him. Everything he had said was making my head spin, could it also be because I didn't sleep well last night?
  • "If I got you right," I paused making sure to choose the right words. "You want me to represent your fiancée and get married to you at the wedding ceremony?" I looked at him quizzically. "Y-you want me to be your wife."
  • He closed his eyes momentarily and I could see his forehead furrowed, I was a bit scared that I had offended him with my talks.
  • "Don't get ahead of yourself Chloe." His eyes darkened. "After the ceremony, we would no longer be in contact with each other, all you have to do is be present at the ceremony as my fake wife and I will reward you." He stepped close to me and I stilled, he truly has a domineering presence and I felt like nothing close to him.
  • "I would give you a considerable sum of money, the money would be sufficient to cover all of your university expenses." I was shocked when he spoke of my university tuition fee and how he knew that was what I was desperately searching for.
  • I chuckled in my head, he is a billionaire and he could get all the information he needed in minutes if he wanted to, that must be why he knew that much about me. He must have done some background check on me.
  • "What is your response, Chloe?" He said softly and his penetrating gaze bore a hole in my eyes.
  • I hesitated and started making a breakdown list in my head. His offer was simple and as a millionaire, he would keep his promises, this should be counted as a charity, whereas he has a lot of money and wouldn't feel anything just by losing that little.
  • In addition to that, he was not asking me to go out on a date with him, he was not asking me to have a one-night stand with him, neither was he asking me to be his wife forever, he was only saying I would be present at the ceremony and after that, he would not be in contact with me, with that money I would go to the university and I wouldn't have to do tons of part-time jobs.
  • I closed my eyes and exhaled softly before opening my eyes again. "I accept your offer, I will assist you." He held my gaze and we stared at each other for a long time. I only hope I have made the right decision today...
