Chapter 2

  • Chloe’s POV
  • I picked the note up and read the words written on them. "Thank you very much for your kindness last night, call this cell phone number to reach out to me. I would like to thank you properly."
  • I tossed the note and cell phone number into my pocket dismissing it as a trivial matter and didn't dial the number. I was glad that the beggar had left, at least I wasn't going to have to beg him to leave.
  • This wasn't the first time I had helped someone, at times I would have to feed them and get pestered for quite a long time before making them leave.
  • It was a relief that this time was different.
  • I walked over to the restroom and washed my face. Since my eyelids were heavy, I had slept for a long time and I had jerked up quickly, making my headache worse.
  • I stared at the mirror for quite a long time, staring at my image in the mirror. I had blue eyes and two side dimples, a sharply pointed nose, and long eyelashes, I was very pretty with fair skin.
  • I hate the fact that I was too pretty, if I wasn't then perhaps I wouldn't have to be asked out by my supervisor, I wouldn't have to attract a lot of attention, I had oftentimes gotten admiration from customers and my supervisor haven't been the first to ask me out last week, there has been a lot of them, numerous others.
  • I splashed water on my face and wiped it off with a towel before making my way out of the restroom, grabbing hold of my bag, I hung it over my shoulder.
  • I looked down at my phone which I held in my hands. I strolled down, finding my supervisor's number. I hesitated when I was about to dial the number.
  • "Should I?" I soliloquized myself.
  • I sat down on the chair and stared out of the window, my supervisor had been cleared about one thing, I would only receive my pay after I cleaned up.
  • I glanced around where I stood, and exhaled softly when I found no spot on the ground. All I had to do now was wait for my supervisor to come to inspect it and then I would get my paycheck.
  • I ran my hand through my hair, my body ached, I had been cleaning for a long time, and a job that should be for five people was done by me alone.
  • I tucked her phone into my bag. "I will have to wait for him to come to me instead." I brought out my notepad to scribble a few more words when my phone rang in my bag.
  • I thought it was my supervisor but when I took my phone out, a smile filled her lips. "Hello, Olivia."
  • "Hey, Chloe, where are you?" Olivia asked from the other side of the line, almost out of breath.
  • "I am still at the restaurant, Olivia." I looked outside the window, and it had suddenly begun to snow. I glanced at the chair I sat in, now glad I brought my coat with me.
  • "Huh, I thought the restaurant closed yesterday because of the billionaire's wedding that would be happening this week?"
  • I wasn't surprised that Olivia knew about the billionaire wedding, it had been the talk of the City, and everyone but me was aware of it and Olivia being a lady who loves information also knew about it.
  • Olivia has been my best friend since childhood and knew a lot about me, we shared the same likeness and almost everything in common, she was the best thing that had ever happened to me.
  • "I was given a task by my supervisor, I am done and will be leaving soon," I told Olivia as I put my notepad in my bag.
  • "Okay, I will be waiting for you at the coffee shop next to your apartment." She told me.
  • "Okay," I said simply and we ended the conversation. I looked down at my body and noticed I smelled of sweat,
  • I had not taken a bath after the cleaning I did last night and I was sure I wouldn't be going home now since I had a place to stop by with Olivia later that day.
  • I got up and headed into the female restroom, since there was no one there now, I could take my bath while I waited to receive my paycheck from my supervisor.
  • I took off my clothes and let the warm water flow down my body, the warmth that comes from this shower was a delight to my soul.
  • It made me recall all the things I had gone through after graduation, working part-time jobs wasn't easy, if only I had come from a wealthy home, then perhaps...
  • I shook the thoughts off my mind, not everyone was blessed with a silver spoon, and not everyone's life was well planned out.
  • I chuckled softly, I had mentally thought of seeking a new part-time job after work last night, but I had been stuck here, cleaning the whole restaurant just for my paycheck.
  • Who said life goes as planned, who said everything works out for everyone, perhaps it does for the rich.
  • I wiped off my body with a towel and put on the clothes I had worn last night. I didn't bring a spare so I had no choice but to wear that, at least I don't smell anymore.
  • Just as I made it out of the female room well dressed, I heard the sound of the entrance door. I first saw the shoe of the man who had walked in, before looking up at his face.
  • He had a grin as he walked over to me, a grin I wish I could smack off his face, how could he smile after making me clean all night?
  • "I see you are still here." My supervisor said as he walked close to me.
  • Where else was he expecting me to be if not right here?
