• "Leia, there you are," Daisy said, her smile a beacon of familiarity. "I was just about to seek Alpha Xavier and Alpha Kai. They wanted help, and since Vincent couldn't make it because of his recovery, I came." Daisy had been my closest confidante, a stalwart pillar I could rely on ever since I was forced to leave the pack and Rovina behind. The harsh realization that she was the one who killed Vincent, my other trusted friend, was a betrayal that cut me deep. Vincent was the one who believed in me, recognized my abilities, and employed me at Blackmoon Cooperative.
• "Leia, you seem frozen. Is something wrong?" Daisy's voice pulled me from my thoughts. As she touched my arm, I couldn't help but flinch. She looked at me, her brow furrowing in puzzlement. I had to keep my emotions in check. I couldn't let her know I was into her true identity. Not yet, anyway. I had to get word to Xavier and Kai first.
