Chapter 6

  • *LEILANI*
  • Things happened so fast, that I wasn't even able to comprehend what my eyes were seeing. No this had to be a dream. I watched in total awe as the men fought. No, not men because one hand turn into a beast or perhaps I should say they'd both turned into beast because even though the other still looked somewhat like a man, his appearance right now was horrifyingly terrific. His eyes were blood shot red and he had fangs, as for the other, he had turned into a mighty midnight-black werewolf.
  • As I watched them fight, I didn't even realize that I was trembling, the air was filled with murderous intent and the two had an intensely dangerous glow in their eyes.
  • Could this be a dream? There's no way this is real. Or perhaps I was hallucinating, I was loosing my mind.
  • 'While Leilani stood in awe, Davian coleman ordered a maid to take the human girl away. He already knew this would happen, his grandsons were always at each other's throats whenever they came in contact, it was inevitable. However, he was surprised by the outburst of Rhysand. There has never been a time were a human became a mate to a werewolf but that wasn't important right now, he had to stop his grandsons before they caused futher damages not just to themselves but to the people around them.
  • "Raelys, why don't you return to your room while I take care of these guys," Davian told his granddaughter, who obliged. After Davian made sure both his granddaughter and the human girl were out of sight, he walked toward Cardan and Rhysand who were in a heated fight, stepping between them just as they were about to charge at each other again.
  • "Shameless fools, this is all you know how to do. In as much as I would like to see you both tear each other apart, I also don't want further damages to be done and cause the people to panic. Furthermore, he was an advisor to these rougish men who happened to be rulers of the werewolf and vampire nation.
  • Upon their grandfather's words, both men stopped fighting. Cardan's eyes had returned to it's normal gold, while Rhysand shifted back to his human form. Although the fight was over, they still glared daggers at each.'
  • *CARDAN*
  • How wonderful, just great how things turned out. Who would have thought I'd hit a jackpot by picking up a random human girl. I'd be lying if I said I didn't like the fact that she turned out to be my brother's mate, I was ecstatic, knowing my brother was doomed now that he found his mate, and seeing the way he acted when I tried to sink my fangs into her was proof enough. He now has a weakness that would be exploited by me at every point. The thought alone filled me with immense joy and every trace of anger I felt before instantly dispelled.
  • "What example are you setting for the subjects? Always fighting, goddammit you're rulers. how long will this go on?" The old man was pissed like always and I somehow felt a little sorry that he had to be caught in the web of me and that sinky werewolf, who was unfortunately my twin brother. The enmity that ran between us was deep, however the reason for it was something I still couldn't comprehend, perhaps it was our different perspectives or maybe not...
  • "It will be over if Cardan hands over my mate."
  • "You like to dream, Rhysand. I'd never hand over my prey to you, however if you're able to kill me, you get her."
  • "Enough, both of you," Davian yelled, clenching his fist. The last thing he wanted was an internal war, things were already bad enough with me and Rhysand always at each other's neck. if something were to happen to one of us, both werewolves and vampires were doomed, as there would be another war between vampires and werewolves, which wasn't advisable since we already had human hunters and witches on our tail, trying to exterminate us. Rhysand and I were just like the tread holding the two supernatural beings together.
  • 'Long ago, the enmity between vampires and werewolf ran deep, they were at a constant war, slowly loosing their population. The witches also took advantage of their fiend, however the vampire king at that time, king Henry decided that it was best to end the war, signing a treaty. He also decide to form an alliance, marrying off his only daughter Carina, to the werewolf prince, Knox. The two Kingdoms later merge into one, making them the most powerful nation and giving them advantage over the witches and also the human hunters who were after them. After the king and queen lost their life to human hunters, their twin son's one vampire, Cardan, and the other a werewolf, Rhysand took over the leadership position however, for some reason they despised each other.
  • ...
  • Giving Davian and Rhysand one last look, I left the dinning hall, going to the underground arena, when Ezekiel approached me. "The elders have arranged a meeting and you're needed your majesty," I heaved a sigh, giving my right hand man a nod before changing my direction. I made my way to the meeting hall with Ezekiel, my right hand man trailing after me, once we arrived inside the hall, the vampire elders were already present, turning in my direction when they noticed my presence.
  • "Your majesty," they greeted, bowing their heads in respect while I made my way to the throne. Ezekiel stood beside me, when I sat on the throne taking my gaze to the elders.
  • "Is there a reason you arranged this meeting?" I asked, knowing it had to be something urgent, seeing as they didn't bother to inform me before setting a meeting. Mind you, vampires and werewolves affairs were discussed separately unless it was one involving the kingdom as a whole.
  • "Your majesty, it's about you finding a mate," elder Luciano the minister of vampire affairs was the one who spoke coming to stand before me. "Your majesty, this is a pressing matter, especially because we got information that your twin brother found his mate."
  • How did they come to know of it so soon? My mind wandered off for a few seconds before coming back to the elders who stood before me. It wasn't entirely surprising though, they've already heard about the news, as the saying goes, the wall have ears yet in these elders case I'd say they were tipped off by the maids who were present at the dinning hall, when the fight between Rhysand and me broke out.
  • "Your majesty, if this news is true you need to act soon to strengthen your bloodline."
  • "Yes, your majesty, you can't let those hairy creatures get ahead of us."
  • This wasn't just so I could strengthen my bloodline, but so the werewolves wouldn't have an heir before the vampires. It was about their ego and pride. It was a competition. After all, the fiend wasn't just between me and Rhysand but the entire vampire and werewolf clan. Everyone wanted to proof they were superior, nevertheless a mate was not something I wanted. I didn't want a bond that would weaken me, tying me to another person. I didn't want to be obligated to anyone except the ones I ruled over.
  • "Elders, I understand your concern, but this is too sudden for me, I'll have to think about it," I offered instead of outrightly rejecting them. Furthermore, these elders were certainly not going to take no for an answer especially in a case like this.
  • "Your majesty, we know this is sudden, furthermore, you haven't found your mate, but you can always take a concubine and when you find your mate, she'd become your queen," another elder, Francis pushed futher.
  • A concubine!
  • I heaved a sigh, pondering over it when a thought suddenly crossed my mind or should I use the phrase a certain someone came to mind and the idea had me completely thrilled although I knew these elders wouldn't like it nevertheless this was not the first time they've frowned upon something and I still went ahead to do it. I was the king afterall, the final say lies with me. Since they want a concubine, a concubine they'll get, regardless of whether she's a human or not...
