Chapter 5
- "Mate."
- I saw his eyes change from green to yellow and my breath hitched. I wasn't seeing thing's right? Perhaps I've lost my mind due to everything that had happened to me.
- First, Cardan had move like some super human, now this man's eyes had changed, although it was for a slip second, I still caught whimp of it.
- "Mate, mine.." he was up and before I could fathom anything, he was standing before Cardan and me. The man was the same height as Cardan, although a bit more muscular. There wasn't a semblance between him and Cardan, nevertheless he was just as charming and unearthly looking like Cardan with a masculine beauty. His face was perfectly sculptured with a well defined chiseled jaw. And unlike Cardan who looked at me with a primal and devilish glint in his eyes, this man's pair of orbs held a gentle and loving glint. Although I didn't know him there was this feeling of tranquility and another unexplainable emotion I felt however, there was no fear like I did with Cardan, even though this man also had a domineering and imposing aura.
- 'Who is this man?' I pondered, taking my gaze away as I was unable to keep up with his intense stare. At the same time, Cardan had pulled me behind him, his tall frame towering over me.
- *RHYSAND*
- The feeling was overwhelming, the feeling of having my mate close. Who would have thought fate would bring her right to me although I wasn't searching. Truth be told, I'd never cared about having a mate, Infact the thought scared me, as I had been a withnessed to what it does to people. I'd seen how they were willing to go to any extent and my father was an example. But right now, it felt like the most perfect thing. Just having her near by was driving me insane, filling me with myraids of unexplanable but pleasant feeling. I wanted nothing more than to rush over to where she was, take her right there and claim her, mark her as mine, mine alone.
- Even my wolf, felt the same way. He was already fighting tooth and claw to be let out, annoyed by my hesitance.
- But I had to calm myself as well as the beast inside of me because she looked so fragile and I didn't want to scare her. When I stood before her, my eyes had taken in her appearance. She was petite with long, slightly curled ginger coloured hair which casaded down her shoulders and back like waves. Her face was small, perhaps the size of my palm or smaller with a pointed nose that sat perfectly above her full heart shaped lips. She had a mesmerizing baby blue doe like eyes which shone as bright as the sun as she looked at me, curiosity written all over her face.
- I was confused as to what to do. Even though ideas kept swiming through my mind. I had to do something, say something. But what, I've never felt so clueless, so confused in my entire life.
- Finally, I was able to form words but before I could voice them out, Cardan came before us. I was too overwhelmed by the mating bond before, that I hadn't noticed him or anything else at all. But now, he was standing in front of me, I felt both confusion and anger surge through me. I hated that he had come between me and my mate, at the same time I was confused as to why he was with her.
- "What a small world huh, who would have thought I would stumbled upon your mate," Cardan flashed me a taunting smile while his eyes held a dark glint. "Too bad, she's mine_ MY PREY," he emphasized on the last word and a violent growl tore out of my lips.
- His prey? I'd never allow my mate be his prey knowing fully when what he does to those prey of his. Regardless of what I had to do, after all we'd never been in good terms, despite the fact that we were brothers, twin brothers for that matter, yet our enmity knew no bounds. For as long as I could remember, Cardan and I were always at each other's throats for some reason I can't even remember. Perhaps because we were different_ Cardan was a vampire and I, a werewolf. It was common knowledge that vampires and werewolves didnt get along regardless of living in the same kingdom. Or perhaps it was our different perspective or maybe his way of life.
- I wasn't critizing him, no. how can I critize him when I was just as vile as he was. I was a monster just him however, I would say I had a little humanity, afterall i didn't go around killing people like he did. For Cardan killing was sport, something he enjoyed doing without remorse. I enjoyed kiling too, but when it came to my enemies. But Cardan, he hunted, every kinds of creature, humans, werewolves, even his own kind, although it was against the rules, however he didn't go by the rules, hence was nicknamed the predator.
- "Cardan," I called out through gritted teeth, trying so hard to control myself. I didn't want to break loose, not now, not here, in front of my mate who's fear I could already perceive.
- "I would never let you_ I would never let my mate be a prey of yours."
- 'Just let me out already, so I could rip off his head,"my wolf was restless, pushing it way forward, but I held back. 'Not now, you'll scare her.'
- I took my attention back to my brother, whose taunting smile remained on his face. "What would you do brother? what can you do?"
- He suddenly pulled my mate to stand in front of him_ her back was pressed against his chest while he leaned his head into the nape of her neck, circling his hand around her neck.
- When his eyes found mine, gone were his taunting smile, it was now replaced with something sinister, something hellish. Then I saw his fangs elongate and the color of his eyes changed to red.
- "Rhysand, she gave herself to me. What did she say again," he looked like he was thinking then he said "Oh ... Something about wiling to be my prey. So that means, she's mine, mine to destroy. Just watch as I destroy her, your mate."
- Before he could sink his fangs into her, all hell broke lose. I moved at the speed of lightning, tearing Cardan away from my mate...
