Chapter 3 She Can Do It
- "Let go!" Adam's gaze was filled with rage, and his voice carried the threat of him losing his mind the very next second. But Sarah wasn't afraid at all. As a doctor, she had vowed that she wouldn't allow others to cause trouble and bring harm to her fellow medical staff. She tightened her grip on the man as she shot the man a stern glare. "You let go of Mr. Tanner!" she uttered fiercely. She gave off a fearless aura as she spoke, and she seemed oddly attractive at that moment!
- Adam seemed to calm down a little as he stared at the courageous woman before his eyes. He had a feeling that she wasn't going to give in so easily, so he—to everyone's surprise—explained the situation to her. "I'm getting Mr. Tanner to come over to save a life." Then, he shifted his gaze to look at Edward. Edward got the signal, so he hastily nodded and explained the situation. "Yeah. Don't get him wrong, Miss Walker. President Parish is a really nice person."
- Um… Sarah froze. Did I misunderstand something? However, Sarah felt uneasy when she saw the grim look on Adam's face and the forced smile Edward gave her. What if Mr. Tanner is threatened? Sarah felt her pocket to check that her scalpel was there before she spoke again. "I'll go with you guys, then."
- Adam could immediately tell that this woman didn't trust her. However, he couldn't care less. All he wanted then was for Edward to help his sister, Sofia! "Suit yourself!" Adam uttered with a scoff. Then, he turned and dragged Edward out of the room. Sarah tagged along behind them without any hesitation.
- …
- The three of them took an elevator to arrive at the emergency department on the second floor. The area was relatively small, and it felt even smaller with all the people who were gathered and clumped in the space. A bunch of doctors and nurses were circling the bed where a gorgeous young lady lay. Her face was pale and soaked in sweat, and her lips were turning purple. She was whining in pain as her body twitched uncontrollably.
- Judging by the size of her stomach, it looked like she was about four months pregnant. Sarah couldn't help but widen her eyes when she saw the woman's face. That's her! Sofia Parish! When Sarah tilted her head up a little, she found another familiar face! That man was too worried to care about his surroundings then—all of his focus was on the woman in bed. Sarah couldn't help but shudder as she felt hatred arising in her chest. Joseph!
- During Sarah's graduation, she had dressed in a wedding gown as she waited for Joseph's proposal. Everyone in school knew that Joseph was going to propose that day. However, he hadn't brought his red roses to her! She had watched as Joseph got to his knees before uttering a sincere confession and proposal to Sofia. Sarah watched as Sofia nodded and accepted the proposal. Right after that, Sofia gave Sarah a dirty glare. Sarah broke down and ran away before she ended up getting drunk in a bar and sleeping with a random man.
- Joseph was the one who had altered her entire life! Wait… that means… Sarah turned her gaze to Adam. He's Sofia's brother! I've heard Sofia talk about him before—she mentioned that she had a loving brother. Hah! What a coincidence. I can't believe I'm bumping into them on my first day back in Astonville! They are the reason I had to suffer for years, and they are the reason I had to leave my homeland and meet with so many hardships! I'm going to make them pay for this!
- Sarah eventually forced herself to look away. She did not realize how Adam frowned in her direction. His icy gaze flickered between Sarah and Sofia. Adam had a feeling that the fearless woman was someone who knew his sister. However, it wasn't the time for such questions then. Adam pressed his lips together as he waited for Edward to finish his assessment. "How is she?" Adam asked.
- "She has a bowel obstruction, and her intestinal walls are inflamed and no longer contracting as usual. She has to go into surgery immediately. Otherwise, she might get a bowel rupture, which would cause an abdominal infection!" Edward cried. Adam knew nothing about medical terms, so he simply turned to look at Joseph after hearing Edward's words.
- Even though Joseph hadn't pursued his career as a doctor, he had graduated from medical school. "I agree to have the surgery," Joseph uttered. Then, he turned to look at Sofia. "This is just a small surgery, Sofia. It'll be quick, and it's not going to hurt. I'll be here with you the whole time!" The sight of Joseph whispering into Sofia's ear reminded Sarah of how he used to whisper sweet nothings into her ear. Sarah felt a sour ache in her chest as tears welled up in her eyes. He's still as gentle and loving as ever, but this time, he's with another woman!
- Sarah had to practically dig her nails into her palms just to maintain a calm look on her face. Sofia pressed her eyes shut as she sobbed. "I don't want to have a scar on my stomach. That's so ugly!" This woman refused to get the surgery just because she was worried about the aesthetics of her body. Sarah's gaze darkened as she clenched her fists even more.
- Adam took a look at his sister before he spoke in a concerned but firm tone. "Are you still going to care about that at a time like this, Sofia? Your health matters the most. Get the surgery—"
- "I don't want surgery, Adam! There has to be another way!" she cried.
- Edward interrupted in a rather awkward tone. "The surgery is the best option we have now, Miss Parish…" Sarah looked around the room before she offered her opinion. "I can help Miss Parish to avoid getting surgery while also fixing her bowel issues. It'll only take a few minutes!"
