Chapter 10 I Am My Brother’s Only Hope
- Soon, Sarah flagged down a cab and headed to Maple Garden where Sebastian bought her an apartment unit on the 18th floor. While there were only two units on each floor, each unit was as big as 200 square feet. With each of the units on the opposite end of the corridor, the elevator was situated in the center. As Sarah's unit was the one in the west, she had no idea whether the other unit on the same floor was occupied.
- At the same time, the password to unlock the door happened to be Sarah's birthday. Looking at the few familiar figures, she began to feel a lump in her throat because Sebastian was the only person who would still remember her birthday other than Wolford.
- As she walked right through the door, Sarah was greeted by a spacious interior with a magnificent and luxurious appearance, not to mention the cozy vibe of the place. Then, she saw a white couch made of real leather. This looks like a designer couch.
- On the other hand, Wolford, who was wearing shorts and a singlet, was sitting on the couch with his legs folded while playing some games on his mobile phone.
- In the meantime, Desmond was sitting on the other end of the couch, busy typing with his laptop. When both of them heard the noise, they looked up simultaneously and saw Sarah. "You're back, Mommy."
- "You're back, Miss Walker!"
- "This place is not bad at all, actually." Sarah smiled, scanning around the apartment unit.
- "I knew you would like it. I guess I have my uncle to thank for his keen judgment. Come on, Mommy. It's time for lunch. I'm almost starving to death!" Wolford sprang off the couch in excitement.
- Soon, the little boy seized Sarah's hand and led her to the dining area, where a few lunchboxes were on the table. "I'm sorry, Miss Walker. I can't cook, so I ordered takeout for us," Desmond apologetically said.
- "No worries. I'm fine with that." Sarah nodded. Then, when they started eating, they were surprisingly satisfied with how delicious the food tasted, probably because they were hungry. After lunch, Wolford felt so sleepy that he decided to take a nap.
- It was then that Sarah and Desmond finally got the chance to have a word in private as they sternly sat on the couch. In fact, Desmond had told Sarah almost everything she needed to know about Sebastian's accident. On the day that the tragedy happened, Sebastian received a call and proceeded to head out to Mount Brookmere, only to be caught in a car accident later. After the accident happened, Sebastian's phone was nowhere to be found, and neither was there any useful lead found from his call history. Therefore, his case remained unsolved until the present day. "What’s the status of his company?" Sarah knitted her eyebrows and asked.
- "After Mr. Walker's accident, Alaric went on to occupy his office and take over the position as the new president in the name of the company, saying that he was trying to stabilize the company," Desmond replied.
- Hmph! Alaric! A bitter look flashed across Sarah's face when she heard what Desmond said. More than ten years ago, when she had just started college not long ago, she was still the Walker Family's legit daughter who was enjoying her comfortable and wealthy life. While she was the apple of her parents' and her brother's eyes, her life was carefree and pure. However, her life took a dramatic turn one day when her mother came crying to her and asked whether she was willing to leave with her should she divorce her father. Sarah was stunned upon hearing that, but soon, she found out that her father had been hiding the secret of having a family with another woman. Besides, she later discovered that her half-brother and half-sister were actually her classmates.
- The moment Sarah witnessed her beloved father loving her half-siblings the way he loved her, her heart was broken into pieces. At that moment, she couldn't help but think that her father was the biggest liar in the world. Because of that, Sarah decided to leave the Walker Family with her mother, yet her father took his mistress and Sarah's half-siblings into the family shortly after they were gone. Later on, the two kids who became the Walker Family's legit children were none other than Alaric Walker and Ashley Walker.
- Although Sebastian hardly ever talked about any affairs related to the Walker Family, Sarah knew that her brother didn't enjoy his days living with the rest of the people from the Walkers right after she left with her mother. After all, she believed her half-siblings and stepmother would not leave Sebastian alone peacefully, considering their wicked nature. Her speculation turned out to be accurate when they kept bothering Sebastian with trouble after her father, Adrian Walker, handed the company over to him.
- Now that Sebastian has become a veggie, I'm sure the three of them are delighted to hear that. Maybe they're even responsible for putting Sebastian in this state. At the thought of that, Sarah clenched her fists shortly before she heard Desmond trying to console her. "Don't worry about it too much, Miss Walker. There is nothing much Alaric can do either, even though he may be holding that position."
- "Why did you say so?" Sarah was stunned.
- "Because Mr. Walker knew this was coming and had the plan to handle it," Desmond happily answered. "Before he handed the company over, he secretly engaged the biggest accounting firm in Astonville called Formetrics Effinance to draft a confidential agreement. If I put it simply, the accounting firm will be given the right to freeze all fixed assets and capital under Walker Corporation should any unfortunate incident befall Mr. Walker, regardless of any objection. Since the agreement has been approved, no one can lay a finger on Walker Corporation's property even though Mr. Walker is lying in the hospital now."
- "What if my brother doesn't wake up? Wouldn't it affect the Walker Corporation's operation?" Sarah asked, feeling stunned by what she had heard.
- "That's why Mr. Walker had a plan B. He transferred all of his shares and fixed assets to you. As long as you can get your hands on his seal, you'll be rightfully appointed as the Walker Corporation's new president."
- "Me?" Sarah's heart skipped a beat. My brother knew those people from the Walker Family were up to something. I was his only hope. No! I must get to the bottom of the truth and save him!
- "Where is the seal?"
- "It beats me because Mr. Walker is the one who keeps it." To Sarah's disappointment, Desmond shook his head.
- "Where is my brother's house? I'm going to swing by and have a look!"
- "He is now in a bungalow estate, which is unit 6, at South Creek."
