• Alexa's gaze shifted as she turned around, focusing on her new room and analyzing it with great interest. Although she was aware that Nick was accustomed to a life of grand wealth, the tour had left her feeling like Audrey Hepburn's character in My Fair Lady, hopelessly ordinary compared to the refined elegance of her tutor.
• The heck with it. With or without marriage, she was determined to keep her life as normal as possible. She made it clear that Nick, who was not her legitimate husband, was someone she had no interest in being part of any domestic deception with, as she wanted to avoid feeling lost and deceived at the end of the year. It is unlikely that she would have regular sightings of him. She assumed he also worked late hours, and besides the occasional party they’d need to attend, they’d lead separate lives.
