Chapter 1

  • If there's one thing that truly bothers Giselle, it's having to run.
  • Her entire morning was planned, organized, but those unexpected events that she detests ruined her perfect day.
  • Now she had to hurry to her appointment with Senator Smith, who had cleared his schedule to meet with her and hear her proposal for public relations, all aimed at improving his image after the scandals within the party.
  • She checks her email, looks up the address, enters it into the GPS, and starts the route to the meeting with the senator.
  • The traffic light stops her at an almost deserted intersection and her phone rings, she answers only because it's Tomy, her assistant, and it must be very important.
  • "Mr. Joules."
  • "Miss Sparks, an email just arrived from Lucy Hunter..."
  • "Lucy Hunter? The owner of Hunter Security Solutions?" she asks, unable to hide her surprise.
  • "That's right, she wants to meet with you as soon as possible."
  • "Did you tell her that as soon as possible is in a week?"
  • "Yes, but she insists on wanting to see you soon, apparently it's... very urgent."
  • "Check my schedule, see who we could move," she looks around before turning onto a street without a traffic light, but with a "stop" sign on the street intersecting the route she's on. "Especially the clients we've already confirmed, they can wait a few days, because it's just for feedback..."
  • A loud thud hits her vehicle, she doesn't know where that car came from, she just knows it's another setback in her busy day.

  • Elsewhere in the city, Max rushes to his car because he has little time to get to the office. He doesn't have anything immediate, however, his mother has summoned him for noon and he can't be late because he doesn't like to keep the most important woman in his life waiting... and because if he's late, she'll scold him.
  • He practically jumps into the car and starts devouring the road at a speed slightly above the norm. Fortunately, the streets are empty and there's no chance of a collision...
  • But an Audi RS Q8 cuts him off, he tries to brake, but he's too close and ends up colliding with the car, the airbags deploy and leave him somewhat dazed.
  • Giselle feels instant pain all over, but it fades when she realizes that a BMW Z4 has run the stop sign. She gets out really upset, slams the door, and walks furiously with the intention of confronting the guy.
  • Because it's obvious that it's a man.
  • And it is.
  • When she sees the figure of a tall man... very tall, getting out of the scarlet car, dressed in a designer suit, with a penetrating gaze but somewhat dazed, she feels her legs tremble.
  • "Are you okay, miss?"
  • "Am I okay? Am I okay?! You ran the stop sign, you idiot!! I have a super important meeting and I won't make it on time because of you!!"
  • "Hey, road maniac," Max says approaching her, but Giselle doesn't back down, "didn't your mom teach you to look both ways before crossing?"
  • "Did your dad not teach you how to drive?"
  • "Look, I don't have time for arguments, let's exchange information and let the insurance take care of everything."
  • "The insurance?! You mean yours, because I wasn't the one who ran the sign, I was driving at the right speed..."
  • "But you didn't look both ways... what if I'm a doctor rushing to an emergency?" Max gets a little closer to her and Giselle is captivated by those eyes, but she shakes her head to snap out of it and pushes him away.
  • "Stay away from me... you must be one of those men who think they can solve everything by playing the gallant with the damsel in distress."
  • "You're not a damsel in distress," he says, laughing.
  • "And you're not a gallant, you're a jerk," she hands him her card and sticks it forcefully on his chest, Max holds her hand for a few seconds to take the card and that slight contact scares him, because it's as if his whole body is reacting to that delicate touch.
  • "Take my card, call me, I can't keep wasting my time with you."
  • "And what if I don't call you?"
  • "I have your badge here," he says, pointing to his head. "You better call."
  • He emphasizes with his index finger, while walking to his car, getting in and moving with difficulty, to continue on the way to the senator's house. He receives a call from a private number and knows who it is, so he answers immediately.
  • "Senator Smith, I had a mishap, but I'll be there in less than ten minutes according to the GPS."
  • "Miss Sparks, I thought you were more serious."
  • "I'm sorry, a car hit me, ran the traffic signal... but I'm almost there, the traffic is clear."
  • "I hope it's true, because my time is valuable and an excuse like that doesn't seem pleasant to me."
  • "I won't have to say a word, my car will speak for itself."
  • The senator hangs up and Giselle smiles mockingly at the man's lack of empathy.
  • "Stupid old man, no wonder you urgently need me to take care of your image... 'I hope it's true,' as if crashing was an everyday excuse."
  • She continues the journey, unable to stop thinking about that man, the feeling she got from putting her hand on the hard chest of that Greek god. But, above all, thinking that she knows that face, that she saw it at some point and something tells her that seeing him as a god is a terrible idea.
  • Meanwhile, Max remains standing there, with the girl's card and a silly smile.
  • "That's the woman I want for myself, where can I find you...," he looks at the card and smiles, "Giselle Sparks? This must be my lucky day..."
  • Because that was precisely the company his mother wanted to hire to take care of improving his image as a businessman.
  • He gets into his car and drives away, calling his mother to tell her he'll be a little late due to an unexpected event he had.
  • His mind keeps going back to the blonde, small and beautiful girl. She exudes intelligence and strength, something that hasn't been found in a woman since... her.
