Chapter 4 The Shift
- I was surprised how dark the day had suddenly become. With my eyes shut, I ran deep into the bush, ignoring all the weird voices I could hear around me. I could feel a strange presence around me. It felt like something was following me, but I couldn't understand what it was. Howls and growls could be heard in the woods. Strange sounds filled the dark air, sounds that should scare me to death.
- After an hour of running in confusion, I suddenly got to the pack's waterfall, and there my legs became wobbly and I fell to the ground, throwing up everything I had eaten that day. At that point, I felt severe pain in my stomach. My hands and feet weren’t left out, as they felt too heavy for me to lift a limb.
- This was a new, terrifying, and unfamiliar experience for me. I was overwhelmed by an excruciating pain that made me feel like I was on the verge of death. I felt my mouth extend, my ears elongate, and my body grow larger. My arms and legs also transformed, with my fingers transforming into sharp claws and my body becoming covered in fur.
- "What the hell is happening? Is this what I think it is? Am I shifting into my wolf?"
- Strangely, I felt something hit me on the head, and I fell to the ground, my eyes shutting.
- Even though I was still conscious of my environment, it was like every part of me had been paralyzed. I couldn't lift a limb.
- "Sarah, you are fine now. Stand to your feet," I heard the strange voice in my head again, but this time, the words were clear. I could hear everything it said to me.
- "Who are you?" I asked calmly.
- "I'm Sua, your wolf."
- At this, I jolted to my feet in shock. I could finally lift myself. Quickly, I moved closer to the waterfall to view myself, feeling an intense energy coursing through me.
- Staring back at me was a pair of blazing yellow eyes and a coat of white fur that somehow looked terrifying to me.
- I had completely transformed into the most beautiful creature that scared me to death.
- "A white wolf?" I wondered, and Sua replied, "Yes, Sarah, a white wolf with yellow eyes. A very rare creature."
- A white wolf isn't supposed to be for someone like me. It represents royalty, and I’m none. Is there a mistake somewhere? My mind was filled with questions. Somehow, this was supposed to be a happy moment for me, a moment I had long anticipated, but instead, I felt my temperament change, and even my wolf could feel it.
- "What's wrong, Sarah? Why are you feeling angry?" Sua asked, as I took a few steps back from the waterfall.
- "Where have you been all this while, Sua? Why are you showing up now when I have accepted being wolfless for my entire life? Where were you when I was being bullied by friends and beaten like a pup by my younger sister and her wolf because I was just a mere human?" I could feel the bitterness rising in my throat as tears streamed down my eyes.
- "I know how you feel, Sarah, and I feel really bad for all you have gone through too, but I didn’t wait this long just to watch you go through pain. It was the Moon Goddess's wish that I stay hidden until this time," Sua tried to console me with words.
- "And why? Why would the Moon Goddess choose to cause me a lot of delay? Maybe she was probably enjoying the torture I was going through from above," I blurted angrily.
- "No, Sarah, don’t talk like that. There’s a reason for everything. The Moon Goddess has a plan for you. Something special that will shock the whole pack and beyond. Just take a look at yourself once more," she said, and I gently took some steps forward to see my reflection in the water.
- "Can't you see that you are made different? A white wolf is so rare and special. It represents royalty, authority, and purity. This is what the Moon Goddess has given you. You should appreciate it. The Moon Goddess has a plan for you that will shock this pack and beyond," Sua said.
- Even though I felt a bit down, I knew Sua was right. The white wolf is so rare and it’s meant for royal bloodline. Alphas, Lunas, and warriors from special clans are the ones fit for a white wolf, but unfortunately not even Alpha Rogan and his Luna or his son had a white wolf. They were all brown and at most, a mixture of silver to mark a little bit of uniqueness from the others.
- I gently settled on a rock, and suddenly, the question that had always been bothering me popped into my head. I had promised myself since I was a child to ask my wolf this question when she showed up, and now was the right time to do that.
- With a heavy heart, I called, "Sua?"
- "Yes, Sarah?" she replied.
- "I want to ask a question and please, do not lie to me. I need your honest review just like everyone else in the pack," I said.
- "Okay, go on."
- "I heal faster than werewolves, I have amazing powers even in human form to fight a wolf, and even though I would normally get defeated, the wolf would be left in bruises. I was born cursed, I hear voices in my head and also have dreams and visions. Now, to be honest with me, am I truly a witch?" I asked Sua, awaiting her reply.
- I was tired of all the stories about me. If there was anyone who should know me well, it should be my wolf.
