Chapter 9 Protective

  • Just as Lucien had ordered, Vicky tried her best to brief Brianna on what to do for her first day of training. To the old lady's surprise, Brianna was not even bothered at all. She took notes on every detail Vicky was telling her then when Vicky was done, she checked her memo and recited them all to Vicky for clarifications or corrections if there were any.
  • But Vicky was even more puzzled. She felt like Brianna was trying to toughen herself, but then she couldn't be sure. She left Brianna on her temporary desk and went to report to her boss.
  • "How is our trainee?" Lucien did not wait for Vicky to open up the conversation. As soon as she got in, closed the door, and made sure of their privacy, he punched in his curiosity.
  • "She is doing very good. Or should I say, she is doing perfectly?" Vicky frowned as she reported. Her facial expressions and her delivered words didn't seem to complement each other, and it made Lucien wonder.
  • "If so, why do you seem bothered?" He chuckled at how weird Vicky appeared to be.
  • "Because she is on her first day of work, she is not supposed to be as calm and perfect as how she is doing right now." Vicky sighed laughingly.
  • She had seen a lot of people new to their fields of work, but she had never seen anyone like Brianna Peters. She is a living specimen of beauty and brain, literally and all!
  • "Don't worry. We are going out for a simple meeting today, nothing much to worry about." Lucien tried to appease Vicky's worried mind. He wanted this poor old lady to feel at ease. At least she blames herself if Brianna messes up their out-of-office engagements today.
  • "Please let me know when you need something that she cannot manage." Vicky walked behind Lucien, who was on his way to get Brianna and leave the office very soon.
  • "Don't worry. just handle things here while I'm gone." Lucien ordered. It was just his way to keep Vicky's mind busy with responsibility while he was out so she won't be worrying about him and Brianna on the field.
  • "Yes, boss." And just as Lucien expected, the trick worked. Just like every time.
  • They arrived at Brianna's desk. She was still gathering her things. Pen, ledger, notepad, cellphone, her purse, and the list of notes that Vicky gave her. Lucien knocked on her desk when she seemed to have not noticed he was already standing nearby. Brianna looked up. She was like a deer caught in headlights. A sight so fascinating to Lucien, who was totally unaware that Brianna was just caught in her devious mind urging her to indulge in her wicked thoughts again. She was chanting herself to focus when she heard his annoying voice. Annoying to Brianna's ears.
  • "Ahhh, yes, Sir. I'm ready. Shall we go?" She quickly picked her things on the desk up and was ready to walk behind him. He looked back at her and asked.
  • "Can you drive?" She looked at his smart car key. She could tell it was a luxury car. The key logo says it was a Lamborghini.
  • "Yes, sir." She took the key without much of any reaction. She wasn't impressed nor hesitant. He was sure she knew the car brand, but she was so nonchalant as if she could drive it, and whatever may happen, she can handle them all. Lucien wasn't sure if he should be proud or if he should reconsider. Then he thought it's just a car. As long as they don't get badly injured or, worse, die, he can turn a blind eye to everything. "Alright then, let's go. We don't want our client waiting for us, do we?" Lucien bent his head slightly towards the door as if saying they should head there now. Vicky was left with her mouth still hanging open. She just covered it when she realized they were already gone due to the sound of the closing door.
  • "What is going on today?" She asked herself. She was not even sure she could disclose these peculiar events of today with anyone. She knew very, very well that her boss values his privacy more than anything. But she was feeling like she might burst if she kept these weirds events all for herself.
  • "Relax, relax. Things may be different, but they aren't bad in any way." She chanted herself to calm down. "The boss has every right to slight changes once in a while." Vicky patted her chest and took a few deep breaths, then went back to her cubicle.
  • Meanwhile... at the parking lot.
  • "Are you sure you can drive this thing?" Lucien asked with a slight teasing in his tone.
  • "Do you trust me, sir?" Instead of giving him her answer, Brianna casually asked him back.
  • "I do trust you, but can I trust you?" Lucas retorted.
  • The exchange of their conversation was somehow refreshing to Lucien, who had never had anyone from the opposite sex to see him eye to eye on things. Like, ask him back when he asked for something. He finds it brave of her. If only he knew, her inner self and rationality were in a savage battle. Him asking her to drive was very much of a tease to her swaying resolute not to harm the grandson only of her mortal enemy.
  • "I cannot answer that for you, Sir. Please decide for yourself if you trust me to drive or you want to do yourself." She was hoping deep inside her heart that he would change his mind and take back the car key from her hold.
  • "Okay, I choose to trust you. What harm can you cause me? You don't even look like you can kill a fly." Lucas shrugged his shoulders as he replied.
  • He chuckled as he walked his way to the passenger's seat side of his electric gold-colored Lambo Sian FKP 37. It wasn't his everyday car as it is a limited edition with only 63 units produced and all sold out already. Its worth was almost three million dollars, and he must be insane to ask his new secretary to drive this car. No one, as in literally, no one, aside from himself, had even had the chance to sit behind the steering wheel even for a quick spin of this.
  • But here he is, not even worried for his life that this girl may not be able to manage driving this high-speed car. And not being able to handle its wheel properly would no doubt cause unfortunate events. He is absolutely crazy, making such thoughtless decisions.
  • "Aren't you getting in?" Lucas asked when he saw his secretary for the day was still standing at the same spot she was when he gave her the car key. And what he said seemed to have wakened her up from a deep thought that she gave him a Botox smile. It was so unnatural that she felt her facial muscles were protesting. Then she walked towards the driver's side. She pressed on the door handle, and its wing opened upwards.
  • "Right away, Sir!"
