As Maya left Leo's office, her mind still reeling from their conversation, she was surprised to find Lucas waiting for her in the hallway, his expression dark with anger. She could feel the tension crackling in the air as she approached him, a sense of unease settling in the pit of her stomach.
"Maya," Lucas said, his voice tight with barely suppressed fury. "Is it true what I heard? Are you really considering Romeo's proposal?"
Maya hesitated, her heart sinking as she met Lucas's gaze. She could see the hurt and betrayal in his eyes, the pain of knowing that she was considering marrying another man. And though she knew that she owed Lucas an explanation, she also knew that there were no words she could offer that would ease the pain of his heartache.
