Chapter 7 Why Did She Do That?
- Natalie believed she had joined the company through a standard interview process, but her colleagues knew she had been handpicked by the president.
- Galactic Group had a rigorous system, with each position requiring thorough assessments. Naturally, the employees resented someone who seemingly parachuted in.
- Although they didn't confront her openly, they would snicker and gossip in her presence, clearly ostracizing the newcomer.
- Knowing she was new and couldn't afford to rock the boat, Natalie chose to endure and keep a low profile to maintain her job.
- During lunch break, Isaac received a call from home, demanding he return that day.
- Having avoided it for several days, he decided it wouldn't hurt to see what kind of bride his family had chosen for him.
- "Mr. Foster, are you leaving? There are reporters outside blocking your elevator again. It's better to take the stairs."
- As the heir of the Foster Group who rarely appeared in public, many people would go to great lengths to catch a glimpse of him. Isaac found it incredibly annoying.
- Just as he entered the stairwell, he heard a bright and cheerful female voice. "Today went smoothly! The work is no problem for me. Our boss? The boss is really nice, young, and elegant. He even invited me to his office for coffee."
- During lunch, Natalie avoided her colleagues and hid in the empty stairwell to reassure Melissa.
- Melissa worried about her, inquiring about every detail.
- "Well, I'll get back to work now. Bye, Grandmom!"
- After hanging up, Natalie couldn't hold back her tears any longer.
- Thankfully, she had managed to maintain her composure during the call, so Melissa hadn't heard her choking up.
- Behind her, the so-called "young and elegant boss who invited her for coffee," Isaac, silently observed the girl squatting in the corner, trembling like a frightened animal.
- Isaac's eyes darkened. This girl was lying to her grandmother; in truth, she was having a terrible time.
- Why was she doing this?
- Isaac hadn't intended to eavesdrop; he just happened to overhear those few sentences. After a curious glance at the small figure, he and his assistant turned and descended the stairs.
- Before Natalie could wipe away her tears, her phone rang again.
- It was her nominal mother-in-law, Regina Glisson, summoning her back.
- "But I'm at work ... " Natalie explained.
- "My son has returned to see you! Be here within half an hour!"
- Regina commanded, hanging up without giving Natalie a chance to respond.
- Natalie had no choice but to take leave and rush to the Foster family mansion. However, an unexpected accident blocked the road, delaying her for nearly an hour.
- As soon as she arrived, Regina launched into a tirade. "You're so arrogant and disrespectful! You have no regard for the Foster family! How could the Shepherds raise such an ill-mannered girl!"
- Although Natalie wasn't eager to see her arranged husband, she had genuinely hurried there as quickly as possible.
- "I was at work during the day. As soon as I received your call, I rushed here, but there was an accident on the road ... "
- "Enough! You gallivant around all day. Do you think the Foster family can't provide for you? Do you know how long my son waited for you?" Regina cut her off, refusing to hear her explanation.
- And she called Natalie rude? At least Natalie had the decency not to interrupt others.
- "Where is your son?"
- Natalie's patience was wearing thin. If they wanted her to meet him, they should get it over with so she could return to work.
- Regina snorted coldly. "Of course, he's already gone. Did you expect my son to wait for you? Who do you think you are!"
- Was there really such good fortune? Natalie almost laughed out loud.
- Not having to meet that unlucky man was the only positive thing that had happened today. She suddenly felt the scolding was worth it.
- With such a sharp-tongued and harsh mother, her son was probably no less of a monster. She didn't want to meet him anyway.
- Bidding farewell to Regina, Natalie left with a sense of relief.
