Chapter 3 Embarrassment Beyond Measure

  • "Nattie! You're here! Stop hugging men and come hug your best friend!"
  • A tipsy Juliet stumbled towards Natalie, her words slurring slightly.
  • "Natalie snapped out of her trance, pulled away from the man, and rushed to support her unsteady friend. "
  • "Alright, alright, let's go home now!" She steered Juliet towards the exit.
  • Isaac's eyes followed the woman in jeans and a loose T-shirt. Unexpectedly, he offered, "I'll take you home."
  • What? Take her home?
  • She wanted to avoid him at all costs, fearing he might demand compensation for his chin and pants.
  • "No need! Goodbye!"
  • She fled the scene without a backward glance, determined to never see him again!
  • "Issac, what are you doing? Come and have a drink! Weren't you just married last week? Already eyeing other beauties?
  • "No wonder you're Whidiff's number one playboy!" his friends teased.
  • Isaac narrowed his eyes, watching Natalie's retreating figure.
  • The next morning.
  • Juliet woke up with a pounding headache from her hangover.
  • Entering the kitchen, she saw Natalie cooking creamy tomato basil soup.
  • "My dear Nattie, you're the best! I love you more than anyone in the world!" she exclaimed, wrapping her arms around Natalie's waist.
  • Natalie wasn't having it, grumbling, "If you really loved me, you'd stop making me pick you up from places like that in the middle of the night!"
  • Juliet stuck out her tongue playfully. "I won't do it again! Did it mess up your night shift?"
  • "I quit."
  • "Quit? Why? Weren't you working hard to help Henry Clark save for the wedding?"
  • Natalie's eyes clouded over. "We broke up."
  • "What?" Juliet was incredulous. They had been together for so long and were even discussing marriage.
  • Not wanting to dwell on the topic of her ex-boyfriend, Natalie switched off the stove and left the kitchen.
  • "It's over! Love is just a distraction from making money! From now on, it's all about my career, no men! The soup is ready, I've already eaten, and I have an important interview today!"
  • A breakup was just a minor setback. Natalie was determined to start her new life with renewed vigor!
  • Thanks to her excellent education and polished appearance, she received multiple interview invitations after sending out a few resumes.
  • The most promising one was for today, at Galactic Group.
  • But traffic was unusually heavy, and by the time the taxi finally arrived, she had mere minutes before her appointment.
  • The four elevators on one side of the lobby were all packed.
  • On the other side, a lone elevator had just reached the ground floor, and someone was stepping inside as the doors began to close.
  • "Please wait!" Natalie, disregarding her image, dashed into the elevator just as the doors were closing, nearly colliding with someone.
  • "Sorry ... " She looked up and froze.
  • "Oh my, it's you again!"
  • Natalie blurted out, startled, without considering why this empty elevator remained empty.
  • Isaac raised an eyebrow as he questioned, "Are you stalking me?"
  • "Pfft ... are you paranoid? I'm here for an interview!"
  • An interview? Interesting.
  • Isaac stepped forward and tilted her delicate chin upwards. "Need my help to get hired?"
  • The confined space of the elevator forced Natalie to lean against the door due to his step.
  • Was he flirting with her? Was he trying to secure a repeat customer?
  • She wasn't some lonely, wealthy woman who would pay for a male escort!
  • She swatted his hand away. "Let's maintain professional boundaries, shall we? Even if we meet again, let's pretend we don't know each other. Besides, we don't really know each other, do we?"
  • Isaac smirked. "You were the one who spoke to me first."
  • Well, that was undeniably true.
