Chapter 10 He Must Be Schizophrenic

  • Belinda looked at Natalie with disdain and let out a haughty laugh. "New here? Don't even recognise me? I'm Belinda Mack! Move aside, you clueless thing!"
  • Natalie wasn't angered by her rudeness and put on a professional smile. "Well, Ms. Mack, do you have an appointment?"
  • Just yesterday, she had memorised her job responsibilities, and without an appointment, no one was allowed into the office.
  • Belinda became annoyed. Forget the Galactic Group, everyone in Asherton knew she was Isaac's childhood girlfriend. How could this foxy-looking new employee not understand that?
  • "You just wait!"
  • She threatened fiercely, then took out her phone to make a call.
  • Once connected, her tone completely changed, becoming sugary sweet and making Natalie's bones ache.
  • "Issac, I came all this way just to see you, but this rude secretary won't let me in!"
  • She whined and pouted for a while until the automatic password-protected door to the CEO's office opened.
  • Belinda lifted her chin triumphantly, bumped Natalie's shoulder, and walked in.
  • "Issac, look at her! She was so mean to me, it really scared me! How can you hire such a rude and rough secretary? Isn't it bad for the company's image?"
  • Natalie chuckled and was about to explain, but Issac shot her a glance. "He's talking to you. Didn't you hear? Get out of here, stop being an eyesore!"
  • Natalie huffed inwardly, thinking fine, she didn't want to stay and listen to Belinda's syrupy voice anyway.
  • After making coffee and returning to the secretary department, she was still working on the files when Alvin came in to make an announcement.
  • "Mr. Foster just gave a special commendation to our new employee, Natalie Shepherd. She's been working very diligently and responsibly, unlike some of the more seasoned employees who often neglect basic tasks. Everyone, take note. Don't let just anyone into Mr. Foster's office!"
  • The employees in the secretary department all shot Natalie strange looks. She quickly hid her face behind a folder, rolling her eyes in frustration.
  • During a rushed lunchtime meeting with Juliet, they barely had time to chat, so Natalie suggested meeting at a nearby restaurant that evening.
  • "Do you think our boss is crazy? One minute he's criticizing me in front of his girlfriend, and the next he's praising me in front of the whole department. He must be schizophrenic! I wonder if he's seen a doctor. He's so sick it might be hard to cure."
  • After half a bottle of beer, Natalie started to talk more, venting her frustrations dramatically.
  • Juliet nodded vigorously in agreement but then froze, her eyes widening as she looked past Natalie.
  • "Shh, stop talking!" she whispered frantically, waving her hand to shut her up.
  • Natalie didn't understand until Isaac walked past her, giving her a look so intense it felt like he wanted to drown her in his gaze.
  • Rowan, behind him, clicked his tongue, finding the situation both amusing and pitiful.
  • Natalie's face fell. How could she have known they would be eating there too? And she had insulted him so badly!
  • Realizing there was no way to continue at the company after offending her boss, she handed in her resignation to Alvin first thing the next morning.
  • "Natalie, why are you resigning? Is something wrong? Mr. Foster just ordered a raise for you."
  • "A raise?" Natalie was completely stunned. "Why?"
  • Alvin gave her a knowing smile but didn't answer.
  • Later, when she brought coffee to the office, Natalie awkwardly thanked Isaac.
  • "Uh, Mr. Foster, thank you. But why did you give me a raise?"
  • Isaac looked up at her, his gaze meaningful. "Maybe because I'm schizophrenic?"
