Chapter 5 Encountering the Male Escort Again

  • Philbert brought up Melissa again.
  • His only tactic was to exploit her concern for Melissa.
  • With her vulnerability exposed, Natalie couldn't argue and left the Shepherds' residence in humiliation.
  • However, her resentment remained undiminished.
  • Dream on if Philbert thinks she will surrender!
  • The following day, she went to the hospital to care for Melissa, as usual.
  • In the hallway, a sudden gust of wind blew a medical report at Natalie's feet.
  • She picked it up and chased after the person who dropped it, but they were already far ahead.
  • "Are you ill?"
  • A deep, alluring voice inquired from behind her.
  • Natalie turned to find that exceptionally handsome face.
  • "You're the one who's ill," she retorted, glaring at the "dollar-man."
  • Why did she keep running into him? Maybe she should consult a fortune teller.
  • "As I said before, even if we meet again, let's pretend we don't know each other. You and I ... "
  • Before she could finish her sentence, the report was snatched from her hand.
  • "Hey, have you no manners?" Natalie scowled, immediately snatching it back.
  • How could he read someone else's medical report without permission?
  • Isaac's face darkened. "You're pregnant?"
  • Pregnant? Did he think she was that overweight? Sure, she had indulged in food after the breakup, but she hadn't ballooned to the point of being mistaken for pregnant!
  • A quick glance at the report revealed the words "Prenatal Check" and "Positive."
  • So he had mistaken it for hers?
  • Her brief confusion was misinterpreted as confirmation.
  • Isaac's gaze became complex, and he sneered. "Using pregnancy to climb the corporate ladder, huh? Clever."
  • "What?" Natalie was initially baffled.
  • Isaac seemed determined to see through her. Despite her innocent appearance, he believed she harbored such manipulative thoughts.
  • "Trying to force me to take responsibility through pregnancy. An old trick. We've only slept together once; I don't believe this child is mine."
  • Natalie was dumbfounded.
  • Was he implying she had been with multiple partners in such a short time?
  • However, telling him the truth would only amuse him. She decided to make him squirm instead.
  • "You dare deny it? You irresponsible jerk! If you don't take care of us, I'll die with your child!"
  • Her dramatic outburst quickly attracted a crowd, who began to judge Isaac.
  • "Didn't expect a man in a suit to be such a scumbag!"
  • Isaac's expression darkened, his eyes boring into Natalie.
  • His icy aura radiated outwards, silencing the onlookers.
  • As Isaac took a step forward, Natalie shrank back, sobbing, "He's going to hit me ... "
  • "Well, very well!"
  • Isaac gave Natalie a final, chilling look before storming off, consumed by anger.
  • Natalie then visited Melissa's ward. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating the peaceful figure resting in bed.
  • Melissa's eyes, filled with love for Natalie, met her gaze.
  • "Since you're here, go handle the discharge procedures," Melissa said.
  • Natalie sat by the bedside, a somber expression on her face as she adjusted the blanket for Melissa.
  • "There's no need for that. Don't worry about the money."
  • Melissa seemed to sense something amiss, a flicker of tension crossing her face.
  • "Did you agree to that marriage?"
  • Seeing Natalie's nod, Melissa's face contorted with pain and anger.
  • "Philbert, that bastard! Marrying your mother off to him was a grave mistake. Now he wants to harm you too!"
  • "Grandmom, I agreed to it myself," Natalie said, gently stroking Melissa's hair.
  • Melissa's voice was thick with guilt. "It's all my fault. If it weren't for me, you wouldn't be under the Shepherds' control." Tears welled up in her old, clear eyes.
  • "Grandmom ... " Natalie took Melissa's withered hand in hers, offering comfort.
  • "No matter what, I have to get married. The Foster family is wealthy, and I won't be mistreated there. If it doesn't work out, I'll simply get a divorce. Besides, it's only temporary. I only have you, Grandmom. I just want you to be well." Natalie embraced Melissa tightly.
  • "I've truly wronged you all these years," Melissa lamented.
  • Natalie hugged her tighter. "You've never wronged me, Grandmom. Being with you is my greatest blessing."
  • Melissa nodded, a sense of relief washing over her.
  • It wasn't until evening that Natalie left the hospital.
  • As soon as she stepped outside, her phone buzzed with a notification from the company, informing her that she had passed the interview.
  • She hadn't expected the process to be so smooth.
  • The next day, Natalie reported to the company and was assigned to the secretarial department.
  • Just as she was about to reach her workstation, she encountered her ex-boyfriend, Henry Clark, looking smug in a black suit.
  • Henry, the man who had shamelessly become involved with her best friend.
  • Seeing Natalie in her professional attire, her curves accentuated by the tailored outfit, and her face radiant, looking completely different, Henry couldn't believe she was working at such a prestigious company.
  • "Even if she was, she should be just a low-level employee," he thought.
  • Exes should be treated as if they're dead, Natalie thought as she tried to avoid him, but Henry blocked her path.
  • His gaze raked over her body.
  • "Tell me, whose connections got you into the company?"
  • Natalie responded coldly, "The company even lets disgusting people like you in. Is it so strange that I got in?"
  • Her undisguised disdain stung Henry.
  • The person accompanying Natalie awkwardly scratched their nose.
  • Henry, with his hands in his pockets, said nonchalantly, "Natalie, no need to look at me like that. I simply chose a better option. How many men did you sleep with to get this position?"
  • She replied, "Other than running your mouth, what else can you do? Don't assume everyone is as repulsive as you."
  • With that, she tried to leave.
  • Henry was infuriated. "Do you really think you're something special because you got into this big company? You're just a low-level employee. Do you believe I can get you fired?"
