Chapter 18 A Throne to Inherit

  • Caught up in the conversation, Natalie couldn't help but share more.
  • "I haven't told you this yet. Last time his mother called me home, I took leave and went all the way there, only to be told I was too late. The way they sat me down in the living room, it felt like a courtroom interrogation. I was so nervous, afraid that if I said the wrong thing, they'd dunk me in a pig cage."
  • Juliet, on the same wavelength, said, "They've been pressuring you to have a baby, haven't they? And it has to be a boy, right?"
  • "How did you know!" Natalie exclaimed, genuinely impressed. "His mother mentioned it just yesterday. It's so weird, why do they only pressure me and not their son? Do they think I can handle it all by myself?"
  • "Nattie, you're an adult now," Juliet suddenly sounded understanding, "Some things you can do independently. Don't trouble the busy heir with everything. Besides, who the father is shouldn't be their main concern."
  • Juliet's sarcastic tone made Natalie laugh uncontrollably.
  • Seeing Isaac's darkened expression next to her, she quickly stopped.
  • "Alright, I'll talk to you later at home. Bye!"
  • "Okay, I'll have the gumbo ready and the beer chilled for when you get back!"
  • Natalie put her phone away and sneaked a glance at Isaac.
  • His face had darkened even more. Was her call annoying him?
  • What Natalie didn't know was that Isaac had heard most of her conversation.
  • It wasn't that he was eavesdropping, she just had the volume turned up a bit too high.
  • Hearing that she still lived with her friend inexplicably lightened his mood.
  • But learning about her mistreatment at her in-laws made him feel indignant.
  • She was his employee, and he hadn't even bullied her, why should anyone else?
  • "Try to be nicer to your in-laws," he said abruptly.
  • Natalie turned to him, bewildered. Why would he say that?
  • Wouldn't a normal person be outraged at her mistreatment?
  • Flipping a page of his document, he finished his thought, "With such lofty demands, they must have a throne to inherit. To become a queen, you should expect to pay a price."
  • A throne?
  • This cold-faced CEO could actually joke?
  • Before Natalie could burst into laughter, Isaac suddenly warned sternly, "Don't laugh!"
  • He couldn't stand her manic laughter piercing his ears again!
  • ...
  • Isaac had been mulling over this matter for a few days. After careful consideration, he found an opportunity to bring it up with Natalie.
  • "As an employee of the Galactic Group, if you encounter any difficulties in your personal life, you can seek help from the company," he hinted.
  • Natalie thought for a moment. Difficulties?
  • Her only difficulty was being poor!
  • Could the company lend her money?
  • The kind she didn't have to pay back.
  • Other than that, there were issues like struggling to wake up, doing household chores, and dealing with crowded subways—she wondered if the company could help with those.
  • "Haha, thank you for your concern, Mr. Foster. I'm doing just fine."
  • Seeing her dismissive attitude, Isaac frowned. "Are you sure? No problems you can't solve?"
  • Natalie seriously pondered for a moment. "Does indecisiveness count? The psychological test said I have level-three decision-making disorder!"
  • Isaac felt exasperated, sighing at this clueless woman. He decided to be blunt.
  • "You mentioned your in-laws treat you poorly. Have you considered divorce? If you're worried about resistance from them, the company can help you."
  • How could they help?
  • Send the PR department to negotiate with Regina like community mediators?
  • Her issue wasn't mistreatment by her in-laws but being threatened by Philbert with Melissa.
  • Otherwise, the Fosters wouldn't be able to keep her.
  • Natalie rolled her eyes. "Thanks for your concern, Mr. Foster, but it's not necessary. I'm fine."
  • "Who are you pretending for!" Isaac snapped, growing impatient. "Isn't your marriage in name only?"
  • Natalie didn't want to discuss this any further with him. She wasn't a helpless woman trapped by feudal traditions.
  • She wanted to handle her own issues.
  • "My husband and I are very much in love, living harmoniously and happily! You don't need to worry about us!"
  • Those words felt like sharp needles piercing Isaac's heart.
  • He was almost infuriated, looking at this ungrateful girl. He felt an overwhelming urge to shake some sense into her!
