Chapter 9 A Biased Mother

  • Linara, who had always been pampered, had never suffered such grievances. Chloe couldn't help but feel some resentment toward this newly arrived biological daughter.
  • This child grew up outside and had no manners at all. She'll need proper education in the future. Otherwise, taking her out like this will only bring shame to the Whitewood Family.
  • Seraphina sat in the room, resting her chin on her hands, watching the maids move things out box after box.
  • Linara looked at the old clothes she had left behind in the walk-in closet. "Stop moving these things."
  • The servants looked at her in confusion. One of them said, "Miss Linara, Miss Seraphina just said we must finish moving everything out today."
  • Miss Seraphina?
  • That title was truly grating.
  • Linara looked at the maid and gently said, "My figure is similar to hers. Since Seraphina just arrived and has no clothes to wear, let's leave these clothes for her."
  • Her considerate gesture immediately earned her the admiration of the naive servant.
  • Linara was very pleased with the result.
  • When Seraphina saw everyone leaving, she curiously asked, "Is everything moved out?"
  • One of the maids replied, "Yes, everything is moved. Miss Linara said to leave the remaining things for you."
  • Seraphina walked into the large walk-in closet, her fingers lightly brushing over the clothes and bags left in the wardrobe. A faint, mocking smile appeared on her lips.
  • In her past life, her dear sister used this tactic to embarrass her in front of everyone.
  • Back then, she naively thought Linara was being considerate by leaving the clothes and telling her they were never worn. Linara even helped her expand her social circle by introducing her to people in high society.
  • She naively believed Linara was a good sister who cared for her, not knowing that all those clothes were worn and outdated.
  • That day was her first time meeting people as the Whitewood Family's daughter. This made her a laughingstock.
  • Everyone knew the biological daughter who just returned to the Whitewood Family had taken the secondhand clothes worn by the imposter Linara, and they were all outdated.
  • Since then, she has been labeled as tasteless and a person who didn't know how to read a room.
  • She still remembered the looks of disdain and contempt people gave her.
  • She would never forget how her mother came back and angrily scolded her, calling her a shallow, poor wretch who couldn't be presentable.
  • Every word was like a knife stabbing her heart.
  • She still remembered that pain and humiliation.
  • Seraphina was ready to play along now that Linara wanted to play the same old trick again.
  • At dinner, a maid led Seraphina into the dining room. Linara and Chloe sat together, and Seraphina was arranged to sit alone opposite them.
  • After Oberon sat down, the maids began serving the dishes.
  • Looking at the dishes being served, all of them were Linara's favorites.
  • Who cared whether Seraphina liked them or not?
  • "Linara, here's your favorite sashimi. I specifically instructed the chef to prepare it for you." Chloe placed a piece of raw fish into Linara's bowl.
  • Finally, a faint smile appeared on Linara's sullen face. "Okay."
  • Seeing her smile, Chloe felt happy, too. "Eat more. These dishes are all your favorites."
  • Seraphina lowered her head, her lips curling in a mocking smile watching the mother and daughter across the table affectionately serving each other food.
  • This was her so-called good mother, who only had eyes and heart for Linara.
