Chapter 4 Reborn

  • Seraphina's soul drifted aimlessly at first, her thoughts in a fog. Suddenly, her memories came rushing back like a tidal wave.
  • Oh, I'm dead. I was betrayed by the one I trusted most. He pretends to hate Linara but covertly loves her. What a long game he played—eight years just to stab me in the back.
  • Watching everyone comfort Linara and criticize her, Seraphina felt both amused and saddened. People I always consider family, huh?
  • Gazing at Seraphina's dead body, the hotel security guards were uncertain of their next steps. They asked tentatively, "Mr. Whitewood, how would you like us to handle your daughter's body?"
  • Oberon's expression was icy as he responded, "She's not our daughter anymore. Handle her however you like."
  • With that directive, the crowd left. Only the hotel staff remained still, determining how to handle Seraphina's body.
  • Unexpectedly, a tall figure strode into the banquet hall entrance, immediately seizing everyone's attention. The manager recognized him instantly and hurried over, addressing him as "Mr. Drakon."
  • Mr. Drakon cast a brief glance at the body on the floor and decisively stated, “Call the funeral home.”
  • "Right away," the manager responded promptly.
  • As Mr. Drakon walked away, the manager sighed and gazed at Seraphina. "Some may appear cold, but they prefer those who feign warmth. Seize your next life with freedom, girl. Live for yourself."
  • A sudden surge then swept Seraphina's soul away, plunging her into unconsciousness.
  • Later, a Mercedes-Benz navigated through the twisting road of Emerald Heights, nestled in Pyrin's affluent district. Out of nowhere, a black cat darted across their path, startling Kai into forcefully slamming the brakes.
  • The tires squealed on the asphalt.
  • With a thud, the girl in the backseat was thrown forward. She hit her head and promptly lost consciousness. Still trembling, Kai clutched his chest to comfort his racing heart.
  • The black cat stayed on the roadway, meowing at the car, sending a shudder through Kai.
  • Growing irritated, Kai stepped out of the car. The black cat darted off but paused to howl back at the car.
  • Annoyed, Kai grabbed a stone and flung it at the black cat. "Meow like you're summoning spirits," he murmured under his breath.
  • As his words echoed, the girl in the car stirred awake. It was Seraphina, her eyes ablaze with seething hatred.
  • Coming back to her senses, she pondered, Wasn't I dead? Am I...
  • Seraphina scanned her surroundings and spotted a familiar figure outside. The black cat glanced back at the car, its meowing ceasing as it vanished into the woods, leaving Kai to grumble back to the driver's seat.
  • This moment brought back memories from eight years ago for Seraphina. She reminisced, That was my first ride in a fancy car, my first trip home.
  • Pinching her arm, she felt the pain sharply. It all feels so real. I've come back, reborn—back to eight years ago and the start of my appalling tale.
