Chapter 9 Ambush

  • "Ah! A snake? How could there be a snake?" Irinka exclaimed in fear. "Did my grandpa just spit out a snake?"
  • She doubted her own eyes, but the snake was on the floor, proving that she hadn't seen it wrong.
  • Sylvia and the others also looked at Kaiser in shock, completely ignoring the fact that Arthur had regained consciousness.
  • However, Arthur didn't blame them, as he himself was also taken aback.
  • "Kaiser, what's going on? Why did Grandpa spit out a snake?" Irinka asked.
  • Kaiser explained, "That's not a real snake. It's just the physical manifestation of a curse."
  • After he finished speaking, he stepped on the snake. As everyone gasped, the snake transformed into a wisp of green smoke and dissipated.
  • "Is this magic?" Several experts in the room felt that their worldview had been shaken.
  • Do curses really exist in this world?
  • The rest also suddenly felt that they might need to reacquaint themselves with the place they live in.
  • "Cough, cough..."
  • At that moment, Arthur coughed a few times and spoke up. "Syl, won't you introduce me to this gentleman?"
  • "Grandpa, you're awake?"
  • Sylvia regained her composure and immediately introduced Kaiser to Arthur.
  • "Thank you, Mr. Rafaelsen. Without you, the Valerio family would have been in danger!" Arthur expressed his gratitude to Kaiser. From their recent conversation, he had come to understand that he had been cursed and then saved by the young man before him.
  • Kaiser politely responded, "You're welcome."
  • After giving some instructions to Sylvia, Arthur dismissed the others and then looked at Kaiser with a solemn expression. "Mr. Rafaelsen, do you know how I got this curse?" he inquired.
  • Sylvia and Irinka immediately looked at Kaiser, their curiosity piqued.
  • Kaiser shook his head, "I don't know, but you can try to recall if you've recently encountered some strange people, like those who make you feel uncomfortable."
  • Those who practiced curses were typically dark mages. These individuals, due to their prolonged exposure to witchcraft and black magic, often exuded a chilling aura that made people feel uneasy.
  • Arthur racked his mind, but nothing came to mind.
  • Upon seeing this, Sylvia said, "My grandpa doesn't like socializing much, so he shouldn't have interacted with many people recently. I will check thoroughly."
  • At this point, a determined look crossed her pretty face. She decided to make the culprit pay the price!
  • Kaiser nodded. "If you run into trouble, you can come to me. Dark mages might be ordinary people, but their methods are quite peculiar, not something the average person can handle."
  • Sylvia expressed her gratitude. "Thank you!"
  • Kaiser didn't find it bothersome. As a demon hunter, dealing with these dark mages was part of his duty.
  • "If there's nothing else, I'll take my leave now," said Kaiser, preparing to leave.
  • "I'll give you a ride," Sylvia offered as she went after him.
  • Kaiser and Elvira's house was located in the suburbs.
  • However, the divorce agreement clearly stated that Elvira gave up all rights to the house, so now the house belonged to Kaiser alone.
  • Outside the residential area, there were a few uninvited guests.
  • These people were all dressed in leather jackets and pants, with strange tattoos on their faces. Some even had nails in their noses and lips. Each of them held a metal pipe, looking quite intimidating.
  • "Everyone, pay attention. If you see this man, beat him to a pulp!" A young man dressed in an expensive suit pulled out a photo and passed it around.
  • The photo showed a smiling Kaiser.
  • After everyone memorized Kaiser's appearance, the leader of the gang curiously asked, "Say, Carlos, how did this guy offend you?"
  • The young man named Carlos said, "This kid beat up my girlfriend's little brother, so I need to teach him a lesson. Feel free to hit him hard later, as long as he doesn't die!"
  • Carlos Duggart, one of Elvira's suitors, was overjoyed when he heard that Elvira had divorced Kaiser. Then, he received a request from Danton, hoping that Carlos would stand up for him. Naturally, Carlos wouldn't miss this opportunity to impress Elvira. He quickly gathered a few thugs he knew, intending to teach Kaiser a lesson.
  • The gang leader nodded in understanding. They had done this kind of job many times before. He immediately slapped his chest and assured, "Don't worry, we'll make sure that kid won't be able to get out of bed for a month!"
  • He chuckled and added, "However, about the price..."
  • Carlos said directly, "After the job is done, I'll give each of you ten thousand in Atharian currency!"
  • The thugs' eyes sparkled with excitement. Nowhere else offered such a lucrative sum just for a beating.
  • Fueled by the promise of money, their enthusiasm surged instantly.
  • Before long, a sharp-eyed thug pointed at a red convertible speeding toward them and exclaimed, "Look, here he comes! D*mn, there's even a beautiful woman in the car!"
