Chapter 2 Compensation For Lost Youth

  • Outside Delgard Manor, Kaiser played with a bank card in his hand. It held five million, which was the compensation for his three years of marriage.
  • Five million was indeed a substantial sum for an average person, but Kaiser couldn't care less about it.
  • The resources he had at his disposal far surpassed what money could measure.
  • In reality, he was the heir to an ancient family lineage that spanned a thousand years. The wealth and connections he possessed were immeasurable.
  • Many outsiders believed that Elvira's ability to create one miracle after another, expanding the Delgard company, was due to her good luck. However, in reality, all of this was the result of Kaiser's assistance behind the scenes.
  • It wasn't luck that favored Elvira, but Kaiser.
  • Unfortunately, Elvira was the one who personally drove him away.
  • Even though Kaiser left with an air of nonchalance, it would be a lie to say he didn't feel a sense of loss. After all, a three-year relationship wasn't something that could be easily erased.
  • Just as Kaiser was weighed down by a heavy heart, his phone suddenly rang.
  • The call was from Roderick Moore, the president of the Fairlake Chamber of Commerce, the uncrowned king of Fairlake's business world.
  • "Mr. Rafaelsen, I heard the Delgard family is hosting a celebration party today. Should I bring a gift?" Roderick asked cautiously over the phone.
  • "No, there's no need for it anymore," Kaiser said calmly.
  • "Hmm?" Roderick was somewhat taken aback, sensing something unusual in those words.
  • Without waiting for him to ask, Kaiser continued, "Go ahead and tell me what this call is about."
  • Why would Roderick, of all people, call me to ask about such a trivial matter as giving gifts?
  • Roderick chuckled awkwardly, then continued, "To be honest, I have a friend who recently contracted a strange illness. We've consulted many doctors but to no avail. We hope you could help us out, Mr. Rafaelsen..."
  • After a moment of silence, Kaiser replied, "Sure thing."
  • Roderick was one of the few who knew his true identity. In the past, Roderick had helped him a lot when he had to support the development of Elvira's company. Now, even though he had been divorced by Elvira, he still had to repay the favors he owed.
  • Upon hearing this, Roderick was overjoyed and repeatedly thanked Kaiser over the phone.
  • As long as Kaiser steps in, there's no need to worry about my friend's illness anymore!
  • After ending the call, Kaiser collected his emotions and prepared to head to the manor's parking lot. The car that Roderick had arranged to pick him up was already waiting for him there.
  • However, a young man reeking of alcohol suddenly blocked his path.
  • "Danton?" The look on Kaiser's face turned gloomy instantly. He was somewhat surprised when he saw the young man in front of him. "Why are you here instead of attending the banquet?"
  • Danton Delgard was Elvira's younger brother. Unlike the outstanding Elvira, Danton was a rich, spoiled brat who only knew how to eat, drink, and have fun. As his family became increasingly wealthy, he also became a womanizer.
  • Even though they were family, Kaiser never liked him.
  • In contrast, Danton also looked down on Kaiser, the useless man who hindered his sister.
  • At this moment, Danton belched, releasing a puff of alcohol-laced breath, then chuckled mischievously as he said, "Kaiser, I'm here to claim compensation for my sister's lost youth."
  • "Compensation for her lost youth?"
  • "Exactly!" Danton asserted, trying hard to maintain a serious demeanor as he continued, "You've wasted three years of my sister's life and squandered three years of her youth. Don't you think you owe her some compensation?"
  • With a cold sneer, Kaiser said, "Let me guess, is this loss exactly five million?"
  • "That's right!" Danton chuckled, reaching straight for Kaiser's pocket. "Hand over the five million right away if you know what's good for you."
  • The real reason why Danton slipped away from the party was to get the five million from Kaiser. All that talk about compensation for lost youth was pure nonsense.
  • Five million could grant me a long period of lavish spending, so why should I let this good-for-nothing have it? There's that girl I took a liking to a few days ago. With five million, I could easily get her to sleep with me!
  • While Danton laughed foolishly, his hands were still restlessly wandering over Kaiser's body.
  • Kaiser pushed him away and said coldly, "I can return the five million to Elvira, but I won't give it to you. Tell her to come and get it herself!"
  • "You!" Danton was somewhat annoyed. He had originally planned to swindle this five million behind Elvira's back. He wouldn't dare to actually summon Elvira.
  • Seeing Kaiser turn to leave, Danton felt a surge of ruthlessness in his heart. He picked up a stone from the ground and hurled it hard at the back of Kaiser's head.
