• "How much longer does he have?" Lena asked softly.
• She watched Marie's hands as the older woman prepared a cup of tea in what Lena surmised was one of the last sets of English china that remained in Sterling Manor. It was a pretty, floral design in royal blue and gold that Lena was very familiar with. She smiled in bittersweet recognition when she remembered that this was the set she'd used to serve Master Sterling and Renz just a few months prior.
• And as Marie extended the delicate cup, Lena was filled with nervousness. She'd never consumed from the fine china of Sterling Manor. She'd lived there as a servant, not as a guest.
