Chapter 138 Trapped

• The floodwaters had stopped surging, but the ice was melting rapidly under the harsh sunlight. The slick surface offered no grip, leaving the people who had fallen into the water unable to climb back out.
• Two of the survivors reacted quickly, trying to sprint toward the building, but the ice cracked faster than they could run. They slipped, fell onto the ice, and then plunged into the freezing water.
• After over a year of disasters, their bodies were at their limits—frail and weakened. The bone-chilling water flooded their mouths and noses as they struggled, bobbing up and down, unable to climb out. Eventually, they sank for good.
