Chapter 7 Janet Was Attacked
- Dominic could comprehend the emotions behind Yvonne's words when she said this. And so, as he looked into Yvonne's eyes, they were filled with nothing but tender affection. She's such a wonderful, beautiful, and kind-hearted girl. Her fate is truly too harsh on her. However, it's all right. This time, I'm back. I'm going to alter the fate of this girl and transform the destiny of her entire family.
- “Don't worry. Mr. Litchfield will be just fine,” he reassured her. “I've studied medicine for a few years abroad. I'll check on him when the time comes.”
- “You know medical skills?” Yvonne sized him up and asked, “Is that really true?”
- “It's true. I also happen to know a highly skilled doctor abroad. If I'm not up to the task, I'll call him in to perform a minor surgery on Mr. Litchfield. He should recover pretty quickly.” Dominic gave his promise with a smile.
- At that moment, Yvonne's eyes instantly lit up. “Really?”
- Her eyes were filled with hope.
- “Of course,” Dominic said with a laugh.
- Just as Yvonne was about to say something more, the phone in her pocket rang.
- Upon checking, she saw that Janet was calling and promptly answered the call.
- Yvonne's expression changed abruptly after she heard a few sentences on the phone.
- She ended the call swiftly, and her face was etched with anxiety. Turning to Dominic, she urged, “Hurry, we need to get to Aploth Bank. Someone has attacked my mom.”
- Dominic's expression also darkened.
- He believed that if he were to love someone, he also had to care about everyone and everything that mattered to the person he loved. Hence, he also cared about Janet.
- At that moment, the two of them stopped shopping and left the supermarket, heading straight for Aploth Bank.
- Meanwhile, something had happened to the Sutcliffe family, and that incident got the entire household riled up.
- That incident was that the son of the Sutcliffe family, Paxton, was assaulted.
- His legs were broken, his kneecaps shattered to the point of obliteration. Even if they were to heal, it was likely he would be left with a permanent disability.
- The head of the Sutcliffe family, Jeffrey, was in the midst of a furious outburst at that time. “Who was it? Who had the audacity to treat my son in such a way? I want his entire family annihilated!”
- Naturally, he was infuriated.
- Although he had quite a few women in his life, he only had one son.
- Throughout his life, he had pampered Paxton to no end. Whatever Paxton desired, he provided, and he even tolerated any woman Paxton chose to entertain himself with.
- After all, Jeffrey thought the Sutcliffe family had contributed significantly to Druobridge. Therefore, he didn't see any problems with his son fooling around with women.
- Precisely because of the formidable strength of the Sutcliffe family, no matter what mistake Paxton made, he could always smooth things over.
- Ordinary people simply had no way to compete with the Sutcliffe family.
- As for those who were too influential for the Sutcliffe family to provoke, he naturally wouldn't allow Paxton to stir up trouble with them.
- However, his son's legs had been brutally shattered at the knees, and he was currently undergoing surgery. The uncertainty of whether he would ever recover was hanging in the air. It was only natural that Jeffrey was livid.
- At that moment, an elderly man with slicked-back hair and a ruddy complexion approached briskly and said, “Mr. Sutcliffe, they all went with Mr. Paxton at that time.”
- Behind the elderly man trailed a few bodyguards in black who were bringing Scar, Seth, and the others along.
- Scar and his crew were trembling in front of Jeffrey.
- Jeffrey was the head of the Sutcliffe family, the local tyrant in Druobridge. They were nothing more than minions in his presence, so they were naturally scared.
- Even Seth, at this moment, was bowing his head, showing utmost respect.
- “Seth, can you tell us what happened?” the elderly man with the ruddy complexion hastily asked.
- “Yes, Mr. Curtis.” Immediately, Seth lifted his head and began recounting the events that had transpired.
- The expression on Jeffrey's face had turned incredibly grim after he heard those words. “The audacity, daring to disregard my Sutcliffe family like this. It seems I've been too low-key over the years, to the point where even the riffraff dares to bully my family.”
- Sternly, Jeffrey shifted his gaze toward Scar and his men, abruptly gesturing with his hand. “A bunch of useless fools! You can't even protect my son with so many of you. What use are you to me? Come on, break all their limbs and throw them all out,” he ordered.
- The moment those words fell, a few bodyguards dressed in black immediately stepped forward from behind, escorting Scar and his crew toward the exit.
- “Mr. Sutcliffe, don't! Have some mercy!”
- Scar and his gang were utterly terrified, hastily begging for mercy.
- If they were to lose their limbs and be removed from the protection of the Sutcliffe family, they would have no chance of survival.
- It was important to note that they had followed Paxton and acted as his accomplices over the years. During that time, they had offended far too many people.
- Once their enemies learned of their fate, they would undoubtedly seize the opportunity to get revenge, leaving them to die a horrible death.
- However, Jeffrey remained expressionless, seemingly oblivious to their pleas for mercy.
- Upon witnessing this scene, Seth shuddered slightly, yet he didn't utter a word, merely keeping his head down.
- Fortunately for him, his mentor was the ruddy-faced elder before him. Otherwise, his fate would have been as tragic as that of Scar and the others.
- Once Scar and his crew were dragged away, Jeffrey uttered in a chilling voice, “Curtis, go get that person. I'm quite interested to see who's got the nerve to disrespect me. I'll ensure their whole family pays the price.”
- “Mr. Sutcliffe, please calm down.” The elderly man, known as Curtis, quickly added, “The other party was fully aware of Mr. Paxton's status, yet they still made their move. There's certainly more to this matter than meets the eye.”
- “So what?” Jeffrey roared. “Are you telling me that Pax was beaten for no reason? Both his kneecaps are shattered. He's my son! Whoever dares to harm him will pay with their life!”
- “I think we should investigate first. What if the other party has powerful connections, or if they're an enemy of yours, deliberately provoking you? Mr. Sutcliffe, if you were to act recklessly, wouldn't that be playing right into their hands?” Curtis suggested.
- Sudden clarity washed over Jeffrey, cooling his previous anger.
- After giving it some thought, he found that Curtis' words made a lot of sense.
- The other party was fully aware that Paxton was his son, yet they still acted so ruthlessly. Either they were fearless due to their backing, or they were just a hothead.
- It was indeed highly likely that Jeffrey's rival had deliberately orchestrated this.
- After all, the Sutcliffe family might be reputed as the wealthiest in Druobridge, but he, Jeffrey, wasn't influential enough to be all-powerful.
- In Druobridge, aside from the Sutcliffe family, there were two other powers that could rival them.
- The two rivals were constantly watching him, looking for any opportunity to covet the Sutcliffe family. Hence, he knew he had to be careful.
- “Investigate it, then!” Sternly, Jeffrey demanded, “Besides, spread my word around the entire Druobridge. No one is allowed to employ that woman's family. I want to cut off their source of livelihood, forcing them to beg on the streets.”
- “Understood!” Curtis hastily answered.
- At that moment, Dominic and Yvonne arrived at Aploth Bank.
- As soon as they entered, Dominic and Yvonne saw Janet.
- One side of her face had already swollen up. At that moment, she was crouched in a corner, clutching her stomach, her face a mask of pain.
- Apart from this, a middle-aged man dressed in a suit, a young woman clad as a bank employee, and a security guard stood to the side, smirks of derision playing on their lips.
- “Mom!” Swiftly, Yvonne rushed over, her face etched with concern. “What happened to you?” she asked anxiously. “Who did this to you?”
- Dominic's face had darkened to its utmost extent when he saw the state Janet was in. The person who hit her didn't bother holding back!
- Janet's pent-up feelings of injustice suddenly erupted when she saw Dominic and Yvonne.
- Janet pointed at Ethan and Marisol and uttered with tears welling up in her eyes, “They falsely accused me of stealing someone's bank card. They even hit me. It was him, this security guard. He slapped me and kicked me.”
- Immediately, Yvonne turned her gaze toward Ethan, her eyes practically blazing with fury.
- She was on the verge of exploding with rage when she saw the audacity of the other party to physically harm her mother.
