Chapter 4 A Man Of Few Words
- Dominic was oblivious to the fact that Paxton and his gang were coming for him.
- He had just finished touring Yvonne's home.
- Despite showing signs of aging and lacking luxurious interior design, this house was fully furnished and ready for immediate occupancy.
- Dominic naturally didn't care about all that. He had ulterior motives for renting a room in the Litchfield residence.
- Dominic rented a room on the first floor that came with a private bathroom, while Yvonne and her family resided on the second floor.
- He was fine with that, for he was content enough to be able to remain by Yvonne's side.
- “Dom, like I promised, I'll give you a discount on your rent. How about you just pay me a hundred a month? What do you think?” Janet beamed at Dominic, unable to hide the fondness in her gaze.
- Although Druobridge wasn't considered a first-tier city, the cost of renting a place wasn't low, either.
- A hundred a month seemed too good to be true.
- Yvonne gaped at her mother in disbelief.
- Mom turned down someone who offered to pay a thousand a month before this, but now, she's letting Dominic rent the room for a hundred a month! She clearly has hidden agendas.
- Yvonne glared at Dominic, clearly displeased. What on earth did he do to Mom?
- “Thank you, Mrs. Litchfield.” Naturally, Dominic was overjoyed. He ignored Yvonne's gaze and seemed to remember something. He shyly said, “Um, Mrs. Litchfield, I have a small request.”
- “What is it?” Janet asked.
- “Mrs. Litchfield, actually, you make me feel at home, and I've taken a liking to you the first time I saw you. May I enjoy your home-cooked meals in the future?”
- Quickly, Dominic added, “Of course, I'll take care of the meal expenses.”
- Janet was taken aback by his request, but she soon smiled and nodded. “Of course! Consider this place your home from now on.”
- “Mom!” Yvonne grew anxious when Janet actually agreed to Dominic's request.
- Although she felt grateful to Dominic for helping them, the thought of eating with a man around her age made her feel uneasy.
- We've literally just met, after all.
- “Thank you, Mrs. Litchfield. There's some money on this card. Please accept it. Consider it my living expenses.” Dominic was in high spirits. He pulled out a black bank card from his pocket and handed it over, saying, “The password is six zeros.”
- Janet hesitated for a moment, but eventually took it because she had agreed to Dominic's request.
- He said there's some money, so it won't be much, right?
- With that in mind, she accepted it without hesitation. Unbeknownst to her, the astronomical sum contained in this card would leave her utterly speechless.
- “All right. Make yourself at home,” Janet said, smiling. She then gave Yvonne a look before saying to Dominic, “Dom, why don't you go shopping with Yvonne for some household items? I'll go buy some groceries and cook a meal for you guys.”
- “Sure thing, Mrs. Litchfield,” replied Dominic, smiling.
- Before Yvonne even had the chance to refuse, Janet turned and disappeared in the blink of an eye, leaving the two youngsters alone.
- They exchanged glances, and Dominic cleared his throat. “Um, where can I get some household items around here?”
- Yvonne sighed. “Come with me.”
- The two had just stepped out the front door, ready to go shopping for household necessities when the sound of car tires scraping against the ground rang out.
- Screech!
- Several cars sped toward Yvonne's house, eventually coming to a halt right outside her door.
- The car door swung open, and about a dozen people emerged from within.
- Leading the group were Paxton and Seth, followed by Scar and his gang.
- Scar stepped out of the car and immediately pointed at Dominic, his eyes filled with resentment. “Mr. Paxton, that's him. This brat is the one who hit us and ruined your plans.”
- Paxton scanned Yvonne from head to toe before looking at Dominic. “You're the one who hit my men and disrespected my family?”
- With an air of superiority, Paxton looked down on Dominic as if he were nothing more than an insignificant ant. “Tell me,” he demanded, “who gave you the courage?”
- “Are you Paxton?” Dominic said indifferently.
- His gaze was icy cold as he looked at Paxton.
- This is the guy who is charmed by Yvonne's beauty and won't stop causing her trouble! Had I not returned in the nick of time, Yvonne might've already fallen victim to him!
- “That's right. I am indeed Paxton Sutcliffe, the son of Jeffrey Sutcliffe. Now that you're aware of who I am, you'd better get lost right away. Otherwise, I'll sever your limbs and toss you into the river,” Paxton declared, his face filled with arrogance.
- He assumed that by revealing his identity as the son of the Sutcliffe family, Dominic would show submission and back off.
- However, Dominic took action without saying a word.
- Whoosh!
- He vanished from where he was standing like a phantom, materializing before Paxton by the time the others registered what just happened. Seizing Paxton's throat, he lifted him into the air.
- Paxton coughed, his face flushed from suffocation as he kicked and thrashed wildly.
- “How dare you!” Seth thundered and swung his fist at Dominic's head.
- He moved with the ferocity and speed of a tiger.
- However, Dominic kicked Seth in the chest without even looking back.
- Thud!
- Seth was flung backward, his chest caved in from the impact. He collapsed onto the ground, coughing up fresh blood.
- Struggling to get back on his feet, he looked at Dominic in horror and disbelief.
- The others were similarly stunned, their mouths widely agape.
- He sent Seth flying with just one kick. Is he even human?
- Seth was a trained fighter, tasked with ensuring Paxton's safety, and no one had ever lasted more than ten moves against him.
- Now, he had collapsed on the ground, spewing blood.
- Scar turned pale. Only then did he realize that Dominic had previously shown them mercy.
- Considering his combat prowess, no one in the entire Druobridge could possibly be his match.
- Perhaps, only Curtis, Seth's master, could stand a chance against Dominic.
- After silencing the crowd with one kick, Dominic turned to look at Paxton, speaking in a calm, yet chilling voice. “Who gave you the audacity to bother her? Are you tired of living?”
- “D-Do you know... who I am?” Paxton managed to squeeze out a complete sentence with difficulty.
- He was equally stunned.
- I can't believe he'd completely disregard my status!
- At the same time, he confirmed that Dominic was a lunatic and a ruthless monster.
- A cruel man of few words, indeed.
