Chapter 5 As Long As I Am Here

  • “Explain to me who you are,” Dominic said nonchalantly, letting Paxton go.
  • Paxton slumped to the ground, clutching his throat as he coughed violently.
  • He looked up, his face filled with resentment as he glared at Dominic.
  • “My name is Paxton, son of Jeffrey Sutcliffe. I'm the son of the Sutcliffe family. How dare you touch me? You're doomed! I swear I'll make you and your family pay!” Paxton hollered in fury.
  • No one had ever dared to treat him like this before.
  • He was like the king of Druobridge since young and was always the one bullying others, not the other way around.
  • Therefore, he was incensed now that someone seized him by the throat, almost suffocating him.
  • “The Sutcliffe family? Never heard of that.” Dominic wore a look of disdain. “I don't care who you are. You should never have picked on this family. Now, it's time for you to pay for your actions.”
  • As soon as he said that, he lifted his foot on stomped on Paxton's kneecap.
  • Crack!
  • The sound of bones shattering echoed through the air.
  • “Argh!” Paxton widened his eyes, shrieking in agony.
  • He was in so much pain.
  • With a calm expression, Dominic lifted his foot again, ready to stomp on Paxton's other knee.
  • Right then, Seth suddenly spoke up. “I'd advise you not to do that.”
  • Dominic looked at him. “Oh? Why is that?”
  • “You'll regret your actions. If you do that, not only will you be in trouble, but you'll even end up getting the Litchfield family involved. They'll die because of you. The Sutcliffe family's power is beyond your imagination.”
  • Dominic laughed.
  • As the War God of Aploth, he had neutralized countless terrorist organizations over the years. Numerous prominent families around the world were once at his mercy.
  • Those families had once threatened him with the same words, and they all met a tragic end.
  • “Do you know? Someone said the same thing to me before this. And they're all dead.” After Dominic finished speaking, he stepped on Paxton's other knee.
  • Snap!
  • The sound of bones breaking echoed once again.
  • Paxton screamed in pain and passed out.
  • Both of his knees had been shattered. Not even the most skilled doctor could cure him now.
  • In fact, Paxton was rather lucky.
  • Had Yvonne not been present, Dominic would have killed Paxton.
  • People like Paxton, including the Sutcliffe family, were mere trash in Dominic's eyes.
  • At that moment, Yvonne was completely dumbfounded.
  • She never expected that the prestigious heir of the Sutcliffe family, who usually lorded over them and tormented her family, would end up having both his legs broken by someone.
  • After the initial shock, a sense of satisfaction washed over her.
  • This is satisfying! Dominic just punished him for me!
  • In the eyes of Scar and his gang, Dominic was akin to a demon, yet in Yvonne's eyes, she saw nothing less than a hero.
  • Dominic did all that for her and her family.
  • She was initially filled with worry, but she believed that Dominic was not a lunatic. There must be a reason behind his confidence and audacity to act this way.
  • However, Yvonne couldn't quite understand where did he get his confidence from.
  • “You're done for. The Sutcliffe family will definitely bring you down.” Seth looked at Dominic fearfully. He couldn't believe Dominic actually did that.
  • Is he not afraid the Sutcliffe family will kill him?
  • Unfazed by his threats, Dominic waved his hand. “I'm in a good mood, so I'm giving you a chance to scram. Take this good-for-nothing with you. Also, tell the head of the Sutcliffe family that if he wants revenge, bring it on. I'm ready anytime.”
  • Of course, he could have easily taken these people down, but the scene would have been rather gruesome.
  • He didn't want Yvonne to witness such a gory scene.
  • Seth struggled to rise but still couldn't. In the end, Scar and his gang had to help him up. Carrying the unconscious Paxton, they left with their tails between their legs.
  • Once they had left, Dominic finally turned his attention to Yvonne, who was staring at him with wide eyes.
  • Dominic touched his nose. “Why are you staring at me like that?”
  • “Thank you,” Yvonne expressed her heartfelt gratitude.
  • She was well aware that without Dominic's intervention, she would likely not have been able to escape the dreadful fate that Paxton had in store for her.
  • It was Dominic who had rescued her from the jaws of danger. He was her hero.
  • “You don't have to thank me.” Grinning, Dominic shook his head and said, “Like I said, I'm the kind of person who can't stand injustice and will always step in to help. Sc*mbags like him deserve to be taught a lesson.”
  • “But he is the son of the Sutcliffe family—” Yvonne said, still worried.
  • After all, the Sutcliffe family was too influential in Druobridge. They were an insurmountable force, at least to an ordinary person like her.
  • “Trust me. As long as I'm here, they won't be able to hurt you,” Dominic said earnestly.
  • As the War God of Aploth, if he couldn't even protect Yvonne's family, then he was better off dead.
  • Seeing the earnest look in Dominic's eyes, Yvonne was completely put at ease.
  • She gave a slight nod, a smile gracing her face. “Come on. I'll take you to buy some daily necessities.”
  • Dominic gazed at Yvonne tenderly. She has such a pure, innocent smile. It's truly worth devoting my entire life to protect.
  • Yvonne then led him to a nearby supermarket to shop for daily necessities.
  • Meanwhile, Janet made her way to Aploth Bank.
  • This was one of the largest banks in the world, with branches spread across the globe. It was the top preferred bank for Aplothians.
  • She came to the bank to withdraw money. Earlier, she had left in such a hurry that she only realized she had forgotten to bring any money with her by the time she almost reached the farmers' market.
  • She had initially planned to return home to get some money, but then she quickly remembered that Dominic had given her a bank card.
  • Holding the bank card, she intended to withdraw some cash from the ATM, only to find that all three machines were temporarily out of service, unable to facilitate any withdrawals or deposits.
  • Janet had no choice but to enter the hall, take a number, and start queuing.
  • Before long, it was finally Janet's turn. She handed over her bank card. “Could you please withdraw a thousand for me?”
  • The service staff at the counter was a young woman, dressed flamboyantly.
  • She shot Janet a sidelong glance, taking the bank card from her.
  • The bank card caught her attention as she prepared to withdraw money.
  • This was a black bank card, surprisingly void of any card number. It only bore the number “001” embossed in gold.
  • The woman's eyes widened in shock. She was in disbelief.
  • Why would such a card appear in a small place like Druobridge? And in the hands of an ordinary-looking middle-aged woman no less?
  • Incredulous, the woman gave Janet a once-over.
  • This card was the most premium membership card of Aploth Bank, with only a hundred of its kind distributed worldwide.
  • The lower the number on the card, the more prestigious the status of the cardholder.
  • Janet did not look like someone who was qualified to hold this card at all.
