Chapter 3 Repaying Kindness
- Yvonne and Janet were still in a daze.
- Is this problem really resolved?
- Upon hearing Dominic's words, the two snapped back to reality.
- “You're here to rent a room?” Yvonne asked, her tone laced with a hint of surprise.
- “Yeah. There's a 'For Rent' sign posted at your door, right?” Dominic pointed at the notice.
- “Then, why did you help us just now?” Yvonne asked.
- “I just have to intervene when I see injustice,” said Dominic, smiling.
- “But, you just offended the Sutcliffe family. They won't let you off the hook.” Yvonne bit her lip, wearing an apologetic expression. “I'm so sorry for getting you involved.”
- Though she was relieved to see Scar leave, she was still worried for Dominic.
- After all, Dominic had just hit the infamous Scar, a well-known ruffian in Druobridge.
- Hitting Scar was akin to disrespecting the Sutcliffe family. The Sutcliffe family would definitely come to settle the score.
- Naturally, Yvonne felt guilty. Dominic had stepped in to help them, only to end up inviting trouble.
- Dominic, however, smiled. He sized Yvonne up, his eyes brimming with tenderness.
- Although she had grown up, she was still as kind as she used to be.
- A girl like her deserved to live a calm and happy life. How can those jerks hurt her? But it's okay. I'm here now, and no one will be able to hurt her on my watch.
- “It's no big deal. They're just a few punks. If they dare to come back, I'll break their legs.” Dominic seemed unfazed.
- Scar? The Sutcliffe family? They're just insignificant ants to me. I can crush them all effortlessly.
- “But...” Yvonne still had something else to say.
- Dominic waved his hand dismissively. “Enough of that, let's talk about renting a room. I just got back and have nowhere to stay. I found out online that you have a place for rent, so I came over. It's still available, right?”
- Before Yvonne could even speak, Janet shook her head with a smile. “Not yet. May I know your name?”
- “My name is Dominic, but you can just call me Dom,” Dominic said politely. His ferocious demeanor when confronting Scar earlier had completely disappeared.
- He seemed like a warm, approachable young man.
- Janet looked at Dominic with admiration.
- This young man isn't just handsome. He's also tall and well-built. He even helped us big time. Nice young men like him are rare.
- She was filled with joy upon hearing that Dominic was interested in renting a room. How wonderful would it be if he could be my son-in-law!
- “Okay. Dom, we really appreciate your help earlier,” Janet said with a smile.
- “Oh, you're welcome, Mrs. Litchfield. It was no trouble at all. I can't stand those who throw their weight around. It's just not right for them to take advantage of someone as kind as you.”
- “Regardless, I must thank you. How about this? I'll give you a discount for the rent,” Janet suggested.
- “Thank you so much, Mrs. Litchfield.”
- The two of them began chatting away.
- Yvonne shot Janet a glare. She knew exactly what her mother was thinking.
- I'm already in my twenties, but I've never been in a relationship. Mom has been nagging me about this for ages. Of course, she'll want to set me up with the charismatic Dominic.
- Janet seemed oblivious to Yvonne's glare. After conversing with Dominic for a while, she suddenly asked tentatively, “Dom, do you have a girlfriend yet?”
- “Huh? Not yet,” said Dominic shyly.
- The smile on Janet's face grew wider as she fired a barrage of questions at Dominic.
- “Where do you live?”
- “My hometown is in Yiefmery.”
- “Where are you working now?”
- “I haven't started working yet. I've just returned from abroad and am preparing to start my own business.”
- “Do you have any siblings?”
- “No, it's just me.”
- Janet grew increasingly fond of Dominic, hoping he and Yvonne could start dating right away, followed by getting married and having children.
- The two chatted as they walked, disappearing into the house.
- Yvonne was left alone, standing rooted to the spot, her mouth agape in shock. What just happened?
- Right then, in the Sutcliffe residence, an ashtray was hurled at Scar's head.
- Bang!
- Scar remained motionless, allowing the ashtray to smash onto his head. Blood gushed from his wound, yet he dared not make a sound.
- A young man, Paxton Sutcliffe, was roaring in anger, “All of you are useless! There are so many of you, yet you can't even handle a simple task. What's the point of keeping you around?”
- His features were contorted in anger. Even the veins on his neck bulged.
- He was understandably angry, for he had just finished taking a bath and was waiting for Scar to bring Yvonne back. Then, he could finally have a good time.
- However, Scar had returned with disappointing news.
- “Mr. Paxton, we were so close to bringing Yvonne back, but out of nowhere, this punk showed up. He gave us quite a beating and even broke my hand.” Scar pointed at his broken arm pitifully. “That guy was way too strong. We stood no chance against him. Mr. Paxton, you have to seek justice for us!”
- The message was clear. He was complaining to Paxton that someone had hit them, hoping Paxton would settle the score for them.
- Paxton's eyes narrowed.
- A trained fighter hit them, huh? These thugs won't stand a chance against someone who's proficient in combat.
- “Who was that? Did he not know you were working for me?” asked Paxton.
- “I told him, but that guy didn't take it seriously at all. He even dismissed the Sutcliffe family's influence, claiming that he'd take down anyone who challenged him.”
- “Great. Just great.” Paxton's face fell.
- He's clearly disregarding me and the Sutcliffe family. No one in Druobridge ever dared to show us any disrespect, let alone disregard us. But now, someone beat my men up and disrespected my family. I can't let this slide.
- Quickly, Paxton pulled out his phone and dialed a number. “Hey, Seth. Come over here. There's work to do.”
- A few minutes after the phone call ended, a young man with hair dyed white pushed open the door and walked in.
- The young man was robust with muscles rippling beneath his skin. His hands were calloused, a clear sign that he was a trained fighter.
- “Mr. Paxton, you wanted to see me?”
- Paxton nodded. “Come with me. There's a guy who needs to be taught a lesson.”
- “All right.”
- Hence, Paxton, accompanied by Seth, Scar, and the others, made their way to the Litchfield residence.
