Chapter 6 Slander
- Could it be that she stole this from somewhere? A thought suddenly occurred to Marisol. “Otherwise, how could she possibly have a membership card of such high status?”
- At that moment, Marisol's gaze toward Janet turned somewhat hostile. Such audacity, daring to steal this kind of card. It seems like there are more and more fearless people these days.
- No. I'm going to have security arrest her and report to the branch manager. This will be a significant achievement for me. Marisol felt a warm thrill within her, sensing that a significant opportunity in her life was about to arrive.
- Seeing Marisol was lost in thought inside with the card in her hand, Janet couldn't help but furrow her brows in impatience. “Hey, help me withdraw the money!”
- Janet still had to wait to get the money to buy groceries and cook at home.
- Coming back to her senses, Marisol subtly pressed a red button located beneath the counter.
- After pressing it, she held the card in her hand, questioning Janet coldly, “Tell me. Where did you get this card from?”
- Janet paused, her brow furrowed in confusion. “What's it to you?”
- Marisol's attitude really irked Janet.
- Marisol gave a chilly laugh. “Don't you know what this card represents?”
- “Is it not just a bank card?” Janet couldn't comprehend why the other party was asking such a question.
- Upon hearing this response, Marisol felt increasingly certain of her own speculation. This middle-aged woman is undoubtedly a thief, and she has definitely stolen this card.
- At that moment, Ethan, a security guard, walked in.
- He walked over, glanced at Janet, and asked Marisol, “What's wrong?”
- Marisol suddenly pointed at Janet, a cold laugh escaping her lips. “Apprehend her,” she commanded. “This person is suspected of stealing someone else's bank card.”
- As Marisol spoke, she casually lifted the black bank card she held in her hand.
- Upon catching sight, Ethan's pupils abruptly contracted, his complexion shifting. The way he looked at Janet was filled with ill-intent.
- Although Ethan was a security guard, having worked in the bank for so many years, he had naturally heard of cards of this caliber. This card is simply beyond what the woman before me is entitled to possess. Given the circumstances, it's certain that she has stolen this card.
- “Madam, please cooperate and come with us,” Ethan said to Janet with a stern expression.
- “Why should I?” Janet wore a face full of anger. “I came only to get a thousand. What gives you the right to detain me?”
- “Why should you?” Ethan sneered. “I'd advise you to cooperate nicely. Stealing someone else's bank card isn't a small crime.”
- “I didn't steal this card,” Janet hastily assured.
- She never could have imagined the trouble that would come from the bank card Dominic casually gave her.
- “If it's not stolen, explain where it came from,” Ethan sneered.
- “One of my tenants gave it to me,” Janet said.
- “Your tenant? Haha! Do you expect me to believe that? Please, don't force me to use force on you.” Ethan naturally didn't believe what Janet said. Is she kidding me? Could someone who possesses a card of this caliber really be a tenant in this woman's house?
- “How could you do this? You're slandering me!” Janet was filled with a mix of anger and injustice.
- “It seems you to do this the hard way.” Ethan's face darkened as he reached out to grab Janet's shoulder. Since this woman isn't cooperating, I'll have no choice but to subdue her forcefully.
- “Get away! Don't touch me!” Janet shrieked, retreating repeatedly.
- Slap!
- Ethan had also lost his patience.
- He had actually slapped Janet straight across the face.
- Janet stared at Ethan in disbelief, shocked that he had actually hit her.
- “I'm going all out against you!” Janet lunged aggressively at Ethan.
- She was accused of being a thief for no reason and even received a slap for it. She couldn't tolerate such an injustice.
- However, there was no way she could have been a match for Ethan.
- Thud!
- With a swift move, Ethan landed a kick on Janet's stomach.
- Janet immediately clutched her stomach and knelt on the ground, her face twisted in pain.
- “Get up!” Ethan sneered as he seized Janet by the shoulder, ready to escort her away.
- “Hold on! I need to make a call. I can summon the owner of this card,” Janet uttered in a weary tone.
- Ethan's kick earlier had nearly knocked the wind out of her.
- Upon hearing these words, both Ethan and Marisol's expressions subtly shifted, followed by a cold smirk spreading across their faces.
- That was because none of them believed that Janet could really summon the owner of this card.
- “Fine! I really want to see how you're going to summon the owner of this card.” Marisol scoffed.
- At the same time, Marisol had another plan in mind. Once this woman has summoned the supposed owner, I'll have the security apprehend them both! This is yet another significant accomplishment. I'm so lucky!
- Marisol was delightfully lost in her thoughts.
- Meanwhile, inside the supermarket, Dominic was pushing the shopping cart, strolling alongside Yvonne, as they picked out various household items.
- While shopping, curiosity sparked within Yvonne, and she asked, “You mentioned earlier that you just got back, right? Where did you return from?”
- “From abroad.” With a smile, Dominic said, “I've been wandering abroad all these years, and I've only just returned today.”
- “Weren't you doing well overseas? Why did you think of coming back?” Yvonne asked with curiosity.
- She knew quite a few classmates who had gone abroad to build their careers, and they were thriving. However, she hadn't heard of many who had chosen to return and establish themselves in their home country.
- Dominic's expression darkened slightly.
- Ever since he was taken away by his teacher fifteen years ago, his existence had been defined by nothing more than grueling training and relentless killing.
- After all these years of bloodshed, even though his reputation had shocked the world, this was not the life that Dominic desired.
- He had grown tired of the killing, hence he decided to return.
- Upon returning this time, it was not just about seeking revenge, but more so about expressing gratitude, and finding a sanctuary for the soul to rely on.
- And Yvonne, she had been his emotional sanctuary for all these years.
- This was also why she was the first person he sought out upon his return.
- Whenever this girl was by his side, Dominic would experience a long-lost sense of serenity. He thoroughly relished this inner peace.
- “You can't exactly say it's bad, but I'd rather come back and start my own venture,” Dominic said with a laugh.
- Yvonne simply responded with a hum. Her eyes were unwaveringly fixed on Dominic. She then asked, “So, are you considering starting your own business?”
- “I have such a plan, but I still need to think about the specifics,” Dominic said. After a while, he suddenly asked, “By the way, when I was at your place earlier, why didn't I see Mr. Litchfield?”
- The news he received was that Yvonne's father had fallen seriously ill, which was why she had resorted to taking out a high-interest loan to pay for his medical treatment.
- Logically, her father would have recovered from his illness by then, but he wasn't seen at home when Dominic looked for him earlier.
- Yvonne's expression turned somber, and she started telling Dominic what had happened. “A year ago, my father was involved in a severe car accident. His injuries were grave, and he nearly lost his life. After undergoing an emergency surgery, his life was temporarily saved. However, a host of complications quickly followed, leading to exorbitant medical expenses. We soon spent all the money we had at home and even had to borrow from every friend and relative. But it was far from enough. Eventually, we even contemplated selling the house. And just then, someone approached me, offering to lend me two hundred thousand. I knew it was a loan shark, but at that time, I wasn't thinking straight and agreed without a second thought. Using that two hundred thousand, my father's life was saved. However, he didn't fully recover. Instead, he was left with paralysis on one side of his body, unable to walk ever again. You didn't see him earlier because he was hiding in the study on the second floor. Usually, he hardly ever comes out to meet people.”
- After hearing her out, Dominic fell silent.
