Chapter 10 A Doctor

  • Dominic paused and said, “Mrs. Litchfield, I know what you're worried about.”
  • With a serious expression, he looked at Janet and sincerely added, “I did return from abroad with some matters to attend to. However, I bear no ill will toward you. Yvonne is a very kind-hearted girl, and you are a truly good person. Even though I've only spent half a day with you, I felt a motherly warmth from you. I assure you, there's no ill will from me. Can you trust me?”
  • Janet gazed at Dominic for a while, then suddenly burst into laughter. “I believe what you're saying. If you had bad intentions, you wouldn't have helped us.”
  • With a self-deprecating laugh, she said, “Besides, there's nothing in our house worth you going to such great lengths and effort for.”
  • Yvonne was quite attractive, but for the truly wealthy, beautiful women were easily within their reach.
  • Although she wasn't sure what Dominic did for a living, she presumed he was well-off.
  • If a man like him desired a woman, he would have no trouble getting one.
  • Furthermore, Janet could see unparalleled sincerity in Dominic's eyes. Every word he spoke was clear, coming straight from his heart.
  • For her, that was enough.
  • “Mrs. Litchfield, what you just said isn't quite right.” In a joking tone, Dominic said, “There really is something in your house that caught my eye.”
  • Janet looked at him with an ambiguous smile. “If you're talking about Yvonne, then you'll need to step up your game. That girl has always been fiercely independent since she was little. Winning her heart won't be a walk in the park.”
  • A blush of embarrassment spread across Dominic's face when his thoughts were exposed.
  • However, he quickly regained his composure. Clearing his throat, he ventured to ask, “Um... Mrs. Litchfield, hypothetically speaking, if something were to happen between Yvonne and me, would you object?”
  • Immediately, Janet burst into laughter.
  • She looked at Dominic, and her face was breaking into a smile. “Why would I object? All that matters is that you truly care for her.”
  • She was genuinely quite pleased with the young man before her eyes.
  • He was handsome, tall, and had commendable manners. Plus, he was wealthy.
  • This type of man was practically impossible to find, even in a small place like Druobridge.
  • Moreover, Dominic had gone to great lengths for them, even daring to oppose the Sutcliffe family. Earlier at the bank, he had even stood up for her. Just these acts alone had already left her overwhelmingly satisfied with Dominic.
  • She had even made up her mind that if things didn't work out, she would personally step in to play matchmaker for them.
  • When the time came and everything fell into place, she would have such a wonderful son-in-law. In other words, she was more than happy to pair Yvonne up with him.
  • Dominic's expression turned serious when he heard Janet's words. He quickly reassured, “Mrs. Litchfield, rest assured, if that day ever comes, I will surely treat her well.”
  • “Then you'll have to give it your all.”
  • The two were engaged in conversation, and before they knew it, they had arrived home.
  • “Mrs. Litchfield, how are you feeling now? Is there any pain anywhere?”
  • Dominic gently helped Janet to sit on the living room couch, expressing his concern through a question.
  • “I'm all right now. You should take a rest,” Janet said with a smile. “Once Yvonne returns from grocery shopping, I'll cook us a meal.”
  • “I'd better check your pulse. Otherwise, I won't have peace of mind,” Dominic said seriously.
  • If Janet had merely been slapped, it wouldn't have been a big deal. However, Ethan had kicked her, so it would be wise to get her checked out.
  • Janet's face was immediately filled with surprise when Dominic offered her a pulse diagnosis. “You know how to give a pulse diagnosis? Are you a doctor?”
  • “I guess you could say that. I did study medicine abroad for many years, but I've since left the profession,” Dominic said with a smile.
  • Ever since he was taken under the teacher's wing, he had learned so much.
  • Martial arts, lethal techniques, various languages, disguise, reconnaissance, and so on. Naturally, medical skills were also included among these.
  • Over the years, he had taken many lives, but he had also saved just as many. People universally hailed him as War God of Aploth, yet few knew he carried another title.
  • He was also known as Aploth's greatest miracle doctor.
  • When he returned this time around, he used the identity of a doctor to conceal himself, and it was working well.
  • At this point, Janet finally lost her composure.
  • For the average person, the profession of a doctor was something truly worthy of respect.
  • Dominic was incredibly handsome, and a doctor, no less. He was the spitting image of a character who had just stepped out of a television drama, a rare sight indeed.
  • “Um... Dom...” Janet took a deep breath to calm her inner excitement. “There's something I need your help with,” she said sincerely.
  • “Mrs. Litchfield, go ahead.”
  • “You just arrived. There are certain matters at home you're still unaware of.” Janet let out a sigh and said, “In our family, besides Yvonne and me, there's also her father...”
  • With a smile, Dominic said, “Mrs. Litchfield, Yvonne has already mentioned this to me.”
  • “Well—”
  • “Don't worry, Mrs. Litchfield,” Dominic said with a smile. “When we see Mr. Litchfield later, I'll examine him.”
  • He was adept at taking lives, but he was equally skilled at saving them.
  • Besides, the other party was Yvonne's father. He would naturally do everything in his power when the time came.
  • “Thank you so much,” Janet said, a look of gratitude etched on her face.
  • “Mrs. Litchfield, there's no need for you to be so formal with me.” Dominic continued with a chuckle, “In the future, if I can help Mr. Litchfield stand again, and if you want to thank me, just cook me a few more of your delicious dishes!”
  • Janet was overjoyed when she heard those words.
  • She then extended her hand, allowing Dominic to perform a pulse diagnosis.
  • Dominic focused intently as he took her pulse for a while before he eventually retracted his hand.
  • “Judging from your pulse, Mrs. Litchfield, your health doesn't seem to have any major issues. However...” Dominic slightly furrowed his brows.
  • “Yes?” Janet suddenly became panicked.
  • “Mrs. Litchfield, there's no need to panic. It's just a minor issue. Have you been having trouble sleeping recently?” asked Dominic.
  • “How did you know?” Janet asked, her face full of surprise.
  • Even though she knew that Dominic was a doctor, the fact that he could diagnose her insomnia just by performing a pulse diagnosis was simply astounding.
  • The experts at the hospital weren't even as impressive as him.
  • Dominic said with a smile, “From what I can tell from your pulse, you've been in a state of physical exhaustion and mental fatigue recently. Over time, this can lead to sleep disorders. It might not seem like much now, but if left untreated, your body's functions will start to deteriorate, and your insomnia could get worse.”
  • Janet let out a sigh. “You've seen the situation at home. These people have been causing a ruckus almost every day. How could I possibly get any sleep at night?”
  • Dominic remained silent.
  • In reality, many people around the world were in similar situations.
  • Especially for some middle-aged individuals, when they encountered high stress or bothersome issues, they generally struggled with insomnia and couldn't sleep.
  • The intertwining of physical exhaustion and mental fatigue could easily lead to falling ill.
  • “Don't worry,” Dominic assured Janet seriously. “They probably won't dare to come again. Even if they do, there's no need to fear. As long as I'm here, no one can bully you.”
  • “Yes... You really saved the day today.” Janet nodded and asked, “So, how can I cure my insomnia? Do I need to take medication?”
  • “No need. A simple acupuncture treatment will do,” Dominic said with a laugh as he shook his head.
