Chapter 18 Let Me Show You
- “Am I so bad that you would rather be alone than spend your life with me?” He questioned, his voice filled with a mixture of sadness and resignation.
- I took a deep breath, knowing that my decision was final, and replied, “I don’t want to ever see you again.” I repeated the words that Xavier once told me. “And if you ever come in front of me, I will make sure you regret it. These are words you said to me at our parent’s funeral.” I felt a pang of guilt as I saw the hurt in his eyes, but I knew I had to stand my ground. “You ask if you are bad or not, but Xavier, I was ten when the only family, my brother, pushed me away from his life forever.” I lowered my head as the memories of that flooded back, causing tears to well up in my eyes. “I may have been young, but I will never forget how you abandoned me when I needed you the most,” I whispered, my voice breaking with emotion. “You blamed me for our parents’ deaths, but you tell me, was it really my fault that they protected me, saving their own lives in the process?” My words hung heavy in the air, the weight of years of hurt and betrayal finally being released.
- “Do you know how it feels to be blamed for something that was never my fault? The pain of being left alone in the darkness, with no one to turn to for comfort or support.” The tears streaming down my face were a mix of anger and sadness as I confronted Xavier with the truth that had been buried for so long. “That was the time I longed for you to stand up for me, to defend me against those who sought to harm me. But you were nowhere to be found, leaving me to fend for myself in a world that was cruel and unforgiving.” My voice cracked with emotion as I finally let out all the pent-up frustration and resentment that had been building inside me for years.
