  • "Don't stop, don't stop," I chanted in my head like a mantra, using it to stave off the overwhelming terror. As I raced through the forest, the snarls and snaps of nearby wolves echoed around me. The thick coppery scent in the air needed no explanation.

  • Pain radiated through my torso, so intense it felt like a wound. The thought of one of the twins being hurt spurred me on, pushing me forward despite the aching, gnawing pain in my limbs and muscles. The fleeting sense of freedom from shifting was gone, crushed by terror and desperation.
