• Without uttering a single word, I trailed behind Katarina’s parents as they led me to their home. The silence was a relief, though I couldn't help but notice the nervous glances her mother and father exchanged throughout the drive. I carefully placed Katarina's unconscious form into the passenger seat, making sure to avoid any direct contact with her skin, and fastened her seatbelt. The journey to their modest, weathered house was brief, offering me just enough time to gather my thoughts.
• I couldn’t resist the urge to steal a few glances at her peaceful face. In the short time I had known her, I had seen only three expressions cross her innocent features—fear, embarrassment, and frustration. But now, as she slept, her face was serene, almost angelic.
