- I watched Sophie go; I might never see her again. It seemed unfair that I couldn't tell her the truth and that she couldn't know that this was not all my fault, but I still couldn't blame her. I made her worried sick, and here I was in a fancy restaurant.
- I thought about running after her; I felt like a fool for saying nothing when she asked. I could have come up with something believable, at least.
