• I deserved what I got. I knew she would be mad at me for what I had said earlier. It was not her fault; she looked scared. I only wished she could tell me about it. She had so much going on; maybe it was wiser if I kept my own problems to myself.
• I spotted Laurent a distance away. My heart skipped a beat. I knew I would have to talk to him. For some reason, I was scared of him and of what he would think, but he was the only one left, the only one who could help me.
