Chapter 4 You’re Going to Be Late
- When the man’s glacial voice was heard, the whole atmosphere became tense as Mrs. Kane went down on her knees with a resounding thud.
- With her eyes reddened, Mrs. Kane apologized. “I… I shouldn’t have said that to Madam…”
- Usually, Wyatt was known as someone who was kind and with a good temperament, but whenever he started losing his patience, no one could withstand his wrath.
- “But Master, I didn’t mean any harm. I just thought it would be tiring for Madam to prepare breakfast on her own…”
- Darting a glance at Mrs. Kane, Wyatt smirked. “So, you reckon it’s perfectly justifiable for you to trample on her kind intentions? All she wanted was to prepare breakfast for her newlywed husband.”
- At that, the dining hall turned as silent as a grave.
- Upon hearing Wyatt’s words, Mrs. Kane and Mrs. Lucy were dumbstruck. Even Summer had her eyes widened with shock, as she wondered whether Wyatt had deliberately spoken for her.
- Trembling with fear, Mrs. Kane’s voice quavered. “No… It’s not like that. We didn’t dump the breakfast. Mrs. Lucy and I ate it all up.”
- With a mirthless smile on his face, Wyatt said, “It seems to me that you’re acting more like the owner of this house than I am.”
- Hearing that, Mrs. Kane kneeled down on the ground and crawled over toward Summer’s feet. “Madam, please put in a good word for me. I meant no harm, really. You’re new here, so I didn’t want you to think that we’re not doing a good job, which is why I didn’t want you to step into the kitchen.”
- Considering Mrs. Kane’s age, Summer thought she would be about the same age as her own mother.
- Hence, seeing her on her knees and begging for forgiveness, Summer couldn’t help but feel uneasy.
- With her lips pursed, she said awkwardly, “Dar… Darling… Mrs. Kane didn’t mean it. If you don’t mind, I can go to the kitchen and prepare breakfast for you now…”
- With that, she rose up from her seat and headed toward the kitchen.
- When she walked past Wyatt, he grabbed her by the hand and pulled her to sit on his lap.
- As soon as she caught the unique peppermint scent from the man, Summer’s cheeks turned pink.
- Placing his hands around her tiny waist, Wyatt asked in a low voice, “What did you just call me?”
- “Dar… Darling.” Her face had turned from pink to scarlet.
- “What breakfast have you prepared for your darling then?”
- “Bacons, sunny-side-up eggs… I have made pancakes from scratch too…”
- Seeing her blushing face, Wyatt smiled and planted a kiss on her forehead. “You can make me breakfast again tomorrow.”
- “What about today’s breakfast?” Summer pouted.
- “We’ll just eat whatever’s on the table. Otherwise, you’ll be late,” Wyatt said as he placed her feet back on the ground.
- Taking a gander at the clock, Summer realized that she was indeed running late.
- It’s almost eight o’clock! My class will start at half-past eight!
- Shovelling the food in her mouth, she went upstairs to get changed and grabbed her bag.
- When she went back downstairs, Mrs. Kane was nowhere to be seen, but Mrs. Lucy was still kneeling on the floor.
- The man with the black silk covering his eyes was seen slowly drinking up the glass of milk.
- Perhaps he had heard her footsteps as she came downstairs, for the man said lightly, “I’ve arranged for a chauffeur to drop you off at school. Come home after school.”
- “Thank you,” Summer replied, her cheeks turning crimson once again.
- The moment Summer left the house, Mrs. Lucy reported, “Master, I have delivered your message to Mrs. Kane. She will likely inform them just as you ordered.”
- “Get up now.”
- Trying to make himself comfortable on the wheelchair, Wyatt said, “I don’t understand. Since Grandpa had arranged for you and Mrs. Kane to work here, Uncle Christian had managed to bribe Mrs. Kane but not you. Why is that so?”
- Mrs. Lucy’s face paled, and she kneeled back on the ground.
- “Is it because you were given another mission?” Gracefully wiping his mouth with a piece of tissue, Wyatt added, “I won’t do anything to you at the moment. Since Grandpa had asked you to keep watch on me, you’d better report to him as it is. I have driven Mrs. Kane away just to defend Summer.”
- With a sudden realization, Mrs. Lucy said, “Understood, Master. You don’t have to worry about it!”

- “Thank you, Mr. Abbott.”
- Stopping by around Blackburn University, Summer grabbed her bag and dashed toward the university.
- The morning sun shone down on her ponytail, showing off her youthful vibes.
- Once she was out of sight, the chauffeur made a phone call. “Master, instead of stopping at the entrance of the university, Madam had asked me to pull over somewhere about two streets away from the school.”
- “What did she say?” the man asked lightly.
- “She said that our car looks too fancy. She didn’t want to let anyone know that she had married a rich person…”
- “Alright. Just do whatever pleases her.”
- …
- Feeling breathless, Summer managed to arrive three minutes before class started.
- Surprised, Harper gaped at her. “You actually came for class?”
- Wiping the sweat off her forehead, Summer said, “Thank god, I made it in time!”
- As usual, she was wearing the typical denim jeans and a white T-shirt. With her hair tied up in a ponytail and her face that was without a trace of makeup, she clearly didn’t look like a married woman.
- Taking out her textbook and notebook, Summer asked as she kept on wiping off her sweat, “I guess the lecturer is going to finish where we left off during our last class.”
- Harper looked utterly bemused. If I remember it correctly, Summer’s charming blind hubby should be already twenty-six! Considering that he is 26 years old and has never slept with a woman, I would expect him to pounce on his wife like a hungry wolf. How come there isn’t a single hickey on Summer’s neck? Her voice doesn’t sound hoarse as well? She doesn’t look like she went through any pain at all! How could she still casually sit around arranging her notes?
- With her imaginations running wild, Harper thought not only was Summer’s husband blind, could it be that he even had difficulties in that area? Even with Summer laying herself on top of him? What should Summer do for the sake of her married life?
- Harper’s thoughts were clouded with grievance. Of course, she couldn’t possibly allow her friend to fall into such misery.
- At that, she immediately sent a message to her cousin who was an andrology specialist. ‘Do you have any medication that can help a man with erection issues?’
- Her cousin replied almost instantly. ‘What are the symptoms? Too short in terms of size or too short in terms of time? Or is he unable to get an erection at all?’
- Stealing a quick glance at Summer, who was now diligently taking notes, Harper was certain that even if she asked, Summer wouldn’t reply.
- Hence, Harper acted on instinct. ‘Just give me a bit of everything. I’ll come pick it up after class.’
- Sunshine, I can only help you this far.
- …
- After class was over, Harper complained about stomach ache and kept bugging Summer to accompany her to her cousin’s hospital.
- From the looks of it, Harper’s illness did look kind of serious, so Summer decided to accompany her.
- As soon as they reached her cousin’s department, Harper and her cousin started chattering about their family matters.
- When she heard that, Summer figured she should be considerate, so she walked out of the room. Sitting down on one of the chairs in the corridor, she took out her phone and started reading a novel.
- Recently, she had been reading a novel about a CEO male lead. After many years of being apart with the female lead, they had finally gotten back together again.
- “Summer?”
- While she got to the part where the male and female leads were about to make love on their first wedding night, she heard a man’s pleasant voice.
- Frankly, Summer thought it wasn’t too appropriate to read this storyline in a public area, which was why she felt so nervous when someone called out her name abruptly.
- Startled, her phone fell onto the ground with a thud, but a gentleman’s hand with slender fingers picked it up and passed it to her.
- “Thank—”
- Feeling her face turning red, Summer intended to thank the person, but she froze immediately when she gazed at the man’s face. He was Jake Bradley.
- Wearing a white robe, this man with a pretty face was her senior. He was someone who she had admired ever since her high school days.
- With a loud thud, her phone fell onto the ground once again.
