Chapter 15 You’re Not Wrong
- In fact, anyone could tell that the housekeeper was using so much force and didn’t hesitate to deliver the blows because he had been instructed by someone, and Wyatt’s words immediately stopped him in his tracks.
- A few seconds later, he put down the whip in his hand and said, “I’m taking Master Wayne’s orders.”
- Despite that, Hayley rolled her eyes. “We’re here to enforce our family rules on this woman who is behaving indecently. This is no place for some undisciplined orphan to butt in.”
- During such occasions in the past, Wyatt had always kept his mouth shut, so Hayley was naturally upset when he suddenly spoke up today.
- “I definitely have to say something since the one you’re hitting is my wife,” he explained composedly.
- From this, Summer could tell that it was just as Wyatt had told her; he was a person without status nor dignity in this family, and nobody would take his words seriously.
- “You think you’re somebody now after marrying this sl*t?” Hayley snorted indifferently and turned her attention to Wayne. “Dad, I think Summer won’t learn her lesson unless she’s beaten, but since she’s already married into our family, then we shouldn’t go overboard as well. We’ll stop if she just admits her mistake, alright?”
- On the surface, it seemed as though she was trying to save Summer, but in reality, she was sure that Summer would never admit to it with her rigid personality.
- Casting his eyes downward at Summer, Wayne asked, “Do you admit your mistake?”
- “No.” Straightening her back, Summer said, “I’ve done nothing wrong in this incident, so why do I have to admit it?”
- Wayne waved his hand in frustration, and the housekeeper with the whip lashed at her back again.
- Smack!
- “Do you realize your mistake?”
- “I did nothing wrong!”
- Smack! Another hit struck her back.
- “You’re still adamant?”
- “I’m not admitting anything!”
- Smack! The whip struck again as the housekeeper hit her strongly with it.
- Kneeling on the cushion, Summer was almost unable to straighten her back anymore, but she gritted her teeth and braced herself for the blow. However, the blow never reached her back even after she had heard the whip cracking.
- “Wyatt!” Wayne cried out in shock behind her.
- Hurriedly, Summer spun her head around and saw that Wyatt had jumped off his wheelchair without her realizing. Throwing himself behind her, he had completely taken in the last whipping for her. His spotless, white shirt was stained with blood as color began to fade from his handsome face.
- “How dare you hit him?!” Summer shouted at the housekeeper as she balled her hands tightly. “Are you blind? Can’t you see that it’s not me you’re hitting? Don’t you know that he’s weak?”
- The housekeeper was not expecting Wyatt to block the whip for Summer at all, and neither did he think that Summer would yell at him like this because of him. Just earlier, she didn’t utter a single word when he was hitting her so harshly, but she was now yelling at him simply because Wyatt was whipped.
- “I’m alright,” Wyatt uttered and lifted his eyes weakly at her. “I’m just… a little dizzy.”
- “Send him to the hospital!” Wayne ordered anxiously when he saw that his own grandson had been struck. Glaring at the housekeeper, he lashed out, chiding, “Go and receive your own punishment!”
- The housekeeper with the whip could only admit his fate and retreat after putting down the whip. Soon, a few servants of the house rushed over to bring Wyatt to the hospital.
- “Don’t touch him!” Summer shouted and sent them away. Helping him back onto the wheelchair by herself, she said, “He’s my husband, so I’ll take care of him!”
- With that, she wheeled him out of the ancestral hall in big strides.
- As Wayne stood in the middle of the hall and watched her scarlet back leaving while wheeling Wyatt out, a glimmer of relief flashed across his eyes.
- “Look how this incident turned out,” Hayley said and chuckled awkwardly. Although Wyatt was not the favorite in the family, he was still a member of the Malcolms, and she knew this better than anyone. “Who would’ve thought that Wyatt is so devoted to Summer and even took a blow for her…”
- “That’s enough. Save your crocodile tears.” Rolling his eyes at her, Wayne said, “I’ve already taught Summer a lesson, so this is the end of it. No one is allowed to bring up this matter anymore in the future!” Then, he cast an icy look at Winston. “What were you doing at Summer’s university out of the blue?”
- Winston, who was watching the show this whole time from the sideline, was tongue-tied when questioned suddenly. “I… I…”
- “Don’t think that I don’t know what you’re up to. Are you really innocent of everything today?”
- Winston’s face ashened from his words.
- “Stop stirring trouble behind my back, or you won’t get a single cent from my inheritance!”
- ...
- In the hospital, Summer finally breathed a sigh of relief after watching the nurse apply the medication on Wyatt. “He shouldn’t be in pain anymore after this, right?”
- The nurse nodded. “The effects of this medication are superb.”
- Another nurse tilted her head and peered at her back. “Madam, would you like me to take care of your wounds as well?”
- Evidently, her injuries were more severe than Wyatt’s, and a searing pain burned from her back when the nurse mentioned it.
- As she lay on her chest, the nurse carefully cut her shirt open and disinfected her wounds cautiously. The pain was so intense that Summer began to break out in cold sweat before finally passing out completely.
- Sitting on a hospital bed next to her, Wyatt’s heart ached at the sight of Summer in this state. “How long will it take for her wounds to recover?”
- “At least a week. Your wife looks weak, but she’s unexpectedly tolerant. Any regular woman would have passed out long ago from such injuries, but she was able to hold out for so long.”
- Sighing softly, he replied, “Yeah.”
- That’s how strange she is, he thought.
- Wayne’s attitude was clear; as long as she admitted to the mistake and asked for forgiveness, this whole incident would be over, but she would rather take the whipping than to do that.
- As a person who had been feigning sickness for more than a decade, Wyatt couldn’t understand her persistence, but she did shock him with it.
- After the wounds were dressed, there was really nothing else to do, so he instructed Emmanuel to submit the hospitalization papers. Seeing how her back was, he didn’t want to put her through the unnecessary pain of traveling home.
- “I did nothing wrong,” Summer murmured in her unconscious state at night, just as she did before.
- The way she was now made his heart cry out for her, and he hesitated before crawling out of his bed and into hers. Tenderly, he held her in his arms and whispered, “You’re not wrong.”
- It’s just that your husband can’t reveal his true colors yet, he added silently and closed his eyes as he held her in his embrace.
- From the age of ten when his sister died in the fire, he told himself that he had to disguise as an especially weak person so that he could recuperate his energy and avenge his parents when he grew up. That was the reason why he had always played his role well as an indifferent and weak character.
- After being dormant for such a long time, today was the first time when he felt that he couldn’t lay low anymore—the second he saw Summer being whipped, that was the first time when he had the urge not to tolerate and keep up his pretense anymore.
- “I’m not admitting it…” the woman in his arms murmured and trembled.
- “You don’t have to admit it.” Letting out a deep breath, he lowered his head and took in the scent of her hair. “I won’t make you wait too long. Everyone who bullied you today… I’ll make each and every one of them ask for forgiveness from you on their knees in the future.”
