Chapter 11 You Sleepwalk Your Way Back Here
- Under the silver moonlight, the man’s smile was simply gentle and attractive.
- Pressing her lips together, Summer could feel a flush crept up her face. “Check… I’ll check when we get home.”
- With that, she drew in a long breath. “Actually, I was only pretending to be brave just now. He’s so strong. I certainly won’t be able to go up against him, and I can’t stop him from bullying you too.”
- Lowering her head, the young lady stared down at her own bare feet. “But… I can still run away with you. I think I ran quite fast.”
- Seeing the serious look on her face, he couldn’t help but smile. “So, do you plan to always run away with me from now on?”
- “Yeap!” she nodded, but shook her head after a thought struck her. “I won’t run away for the rest of my life. Once I’ve become stronger, I can then protect you.”
- Bathed in the moonlight, Wyatt gazed at her for a moment and beamed. “Alright, I’ll wait for you to become stronger.”
- “Deal!” Her face turned scarlet as she clenched her fists.
- Giving her face a few good pats, the young lady looked around at the dark roadside. “How are we going to go back now?”
- Her stilettos were used as a weapon just now, so how could she possibly walk all the way home barefooted and together with him?
- The man in the wheelchair chuckled. “Close your eyes and start counting. Once you count to ten, I’ll be able to think of a way to get us home.”
- “Are you still going to joke around now?” She pouted.
- “Give it a try. You’ll know whether I’m joking.”
- “I’m not a kid.”
- Jutting her lower lip out in a pout, the young lady rolled her eyes at him, but obediently closed her eyes and started counting afterward.
- “One, two, three…”
- Under the bright moonlight, the young lady’s voice and his face was as pure as snow.
- Gazing at her through the black silk, Wyatt himself couldn’t fathom how gentle he looked at this moment.
- “Eight, nine, ten!”
- The moment Summer counted ten, she opened her eyes right away.
- However, a car’s headlights from a fair distance shone brightly at her, and she could barely open her eyes.
- A few seconds later, the car stopped in front of them.
- Once the car door was opened, Emmanuel got out of the car. “Sorry for being late.”
- “Not really,” said the man with a smile. “But if you’re late for another second, you may get your pay cut.”
- Then, it dawned upon Summer as she helped him into the car. “I thought you had a brilliant plan. So it was just getting Emmanuel to pick us up,” said Summer, with her lips puckered.
- Slowly taking his seat in the car, Wyatt replied, “This is the best plan that a blind man can think of.”
- Hearing that, Summer pursed her lips, as she didn’t like it whenever he called himself a blind man.
- After she had sat down next to Wyatt, the car drove off.
- As she didn’t have a good sleep yesterday, she gradually fell asleep while leaning against the leather seat.
- In a daze, she thought she heard someone speaking in a lowered voice.
- “Sir, we have arrived.”
- “Don't wake her. Let her sleep.”
- “But…”
- Later, Summer felt her whole body being lifted, as though someone had carried her up.
- In the end, she felt as though she had fallen into a warm and comfy embrace.
- Not knowing whether it was just a dream or reality, she could even smell the refreshing mint scent from the man.
- Perhaps… it was just a dream.
- The unique but familiar scent of mint confused her even more, as she couldn’t tell whether it was just a dream or reality.
- Probably, a dream.
- In her dream, the man gently carried her and placed her down slowly on the soft bed.
- As the man gently stroked her hair strands, she could even hear the man say, “Little dummy.”
- Strangely, Summer noticed the husky voice sounded familiar, but she couldn’t recall where she had heard it from.
- When she woke up the next day, it was already at the break of dawn.
- With the sunlight blazing at her, Summer yawned lazily as she sat up from the bed.
- The moment she realized she was sleeping in her newlywed room, she frowned while trying to recall what happened last night.
- If her memory had not failed her, she recalled Emmanuel had picked her and Wyatt up from Malcolm Mansion.
- On the way back, she thought of catching a snooze.
- Did she actually fall asleep until the next day?
- How did she get out of the car and all the way up to the room?
- Could it be that…
- A blurry image of last night’s dream appeared before her.
- No way! It couldn’t be.
- Shaking her head frantically, she tried to dismiss her illogical thoughts.
- “You’re up?” A man’s husky voice sounded.
- Startled, Summer turned to look for the source of the sound, and her gaze met with Wyatt’s deep-set eyes.
- Blushing, Summer immediately looked away and wondered how could a man with impaired vision have such intense stares?
- At the thought that he was blind, she felt her blushing and heart skipping was simply superfluous.
- With her mouth curved into a smile, she looked at him. “Are you awake?”
- “Yep.” Taking in every expression on her face, the man grinned as he got up with a walking stick in hand. “I didn’t sleep too well last night.”
- Frowning, Summer asked, “Why is that?”
- In fact, she had such a good sleep last night.
- There was a flicker of amusement in his gaze as the man grumbled, “You snored.”
- Feeling embarrassed, Summer coughed lightly and attempted to change the topic. “How did I get back last night?”
- “You sleepwalked your way back here.” Without looking back, the man headed toward the bathroom.
- Taken aback, Summer glared at his back and made a grimace look.
- She didn’t believe it when he said she snored last night.
- Now, he said she was sleepwalking?
- “But I never sleepwalk.”
- Without replying, the tall man went straight into the bathroom and closed the door.
- Eyeing at the bathroom door, Summer rolled her eyes.
- Taking off the wrinkled cocktail dress, she got up and changed into a clean pair of jeans and white T-shirt.
- Just when she had finished dressing up, her phone rang—it was Harper.
- “Little sunshine! Come over right now!” cried Harper, sounding really anxious over the phone. “Someone came over to the school. They tore and burned some of your books!”
- Shocked beyond words, Summer yelled, “What?!”
- As a kid who grew up from the countryside, she treasured the chance of being able to further her studies in Blackburn City. Hence, she had booked a spot for herself in the study room building, safekeeping all her books and notes.
- A number of students in school had this habit as well, and there were no accidents before this. Why would someone deliberately tear and burn her books?
- “Anyway, just get over here quick! Otherwise, it’ll be too late!”
- Once she hung up the phone, she dashed toward the door.
- At the same time, Wyatt was sitting on the couch and drinking tea, while Emmanuel was reading the newspaper to him.
- His brows snapped together when he saw her rushing out and said, “What’s the rush?”
- “Something happened! I need to get to school now!” After putting on her shoes, Summer turned around to ask, “Can I borrow Emmanuel? I’m in a rush. Can he give me a lift?”
- During rush hours, she might not be able to call a taxi.
- “Sure,” said the man lightly.
- Placing the newspaper down, Emmanuel followed after Summer.
- “Sir.”
- Once Summer left, Mr. Bell walked over and reported, “I just received news from the Malcolm Mansion, saying that Winston went to Madam’s school.”
- With a sneer, Wyatt commanded, “Get the car ready.”
- “Are we going to Madam’s school?”
- “Yes.”
- “But…” Hesitating for a moment, Mr. Bell continued, “Sir, according to our plan, this is still not the right time to have a head-on confrontation with Winston.”
- Taking off the black silk cloth, Wyatt glanced at Mr. Bell. “He’s hitting on my wife. Who cares about the plan?”
