Chapter 13 From Now on, I’ll Be the One to Protect Wyatt
- “That’s the idea,” Winston replied, stifling his urge to mock her. “If you’ll obediently take off my clothes and kiss me, then maybe I’ll lose my interest in you.”
- A cunning look flashed across Summer’s eyes for a split second, but she nodded her head earnestly. “Okay, I’ll do everything you say.”
- Finally, Winston couldn’t hold back anymore and burst into laughter. Waving his hand at the men holding her, he ordered, “Let her go!”
- I would like to see how silly this village woman can be! he thought.
- Obeying his order, the men released her.
- “You’re not up to any tricks, are you?” he asked with a smile as he watched her pace over to himself.
- “I’m just one person against three men. No matter what tricks I pull, it’s not possible for me to get away.” Smiling sincerely, she stood next to him and said, “So here’s our deal, I’ll remove your clothes and give you a kiss. In return, you’re not touching me.”
- Grabbing her hand, he clarified, “You’ll be kissing down there, not up here.”
- Suppressing her disgust, Summer jerked her hand away and took her time to undo his buttons.
- One, two buttons...
- The side profile of a serious young woman set Winston’s whole body on fire, but he could only bear it as he wanted to see her throw her arms around himself. However, she was really slow, and would even smoothen out his shirt carefully every time she undid a button.
- Losing his patience, he was about to rush her when he felt something cold against his chest.
- Lowering his head, a trace of anxiety glimmered in his eyes—because Summer was holding a mini switchblade in her hands, pointing the tip against his chest.
- “Let me introduce myself. I’m a medical student who is studying cardiac surgery,” she began, her clear voice now with an extra touch of iciness. “With my full scores in all subjects as guarantee, be assured that when I pierce this through, your heart will be split in half.”
- Beads of cold sweat formed on Winston’s forehead because he had never been held at the tip of a knife before in his life!
- Gritting his teeth, he wanted to struggle, but came to realize that Summer had made a knot out of his jacket without him noticing! This time, he didn’t even have the chance to escape and could only be at Summer’s mercy.
- “Summer…” he started, forcibly putting on a kind smile as he tried to ask for mercy. “No matter what, I’m still Wyatt’s cousin. What will you tell the family if you do this to me? Calm down now, will you?”
- “So you do realize that I’m your cousin-in-law, huh?” Smirking nonchalantly, she continued, “So have you thought about what you’ll tell the family for what you did to me earlier?”
- All blood drained from his face, and he stammered, “I—”
- “Do you think that you can do as you please with me because Wyatt is not needed in the Malcolm Family? Since he’s blind and doesn’t hold much authority, there’s nothing he could do to you, right?”
- Lowering his head and peering at the shiny silver blade at his chest, he nodded and uttered, “Yeah…”
- Summer felt her heart sink to the bottom of her stomach as she recalled the man in the wheelchair at the garden last night, gazing at the moon saying that he had no relatives. The loneliness in his voice pulled at her heartstrings every time it came back to her mind.
- “From now on, I’ll be the one to protect Wyatt.” Taking a deep breath, she declared, “Although I’m a little silly and not from the same world as you guys, I have to say that I’m an exceptionally bright medical student.” Pretending to be vicious, she moved the blade in her hand slightly and added, “I’ve learned the proper force to cut your heart in half and also the way to cut it up into three slices.”
- Winston began to tremble, for he saw the ruthlessness in her eyes.
- Never did it come across his mind that this woman who was innocently undressing him just a second ago was now looking at him with such eyes!
- He could clearly feel that she was serious about it. In fact, it felt so real that he feared that she would really come after his heart with this knife if he messed with Wyatt again in the future!
- It’s terrifying… he thought. Medical students with good grades are really terrifying...
- Taking a deep breath, Summer thought, I’ve already said all that I can, threatening and scaring him, but how do I get away now?
- Outside were all Winston’s men, and even if she held him hostage now, they still had Harper in their hands. So they could use Harper as the bargaining chip to release him.
- However, once she let Winston go, the two helpless ladies would never be a match for Winston and his men. By then, he would definitely become worse.
- But I can’t leave Harper in the lurch, Summer pondered as the tip of the knife in her hand danced around Winston’s chest unconsciously.
- Right now, Winston was covered in cold sweat, thinking if Summer was swinging the knife on purpose as she thought about ways to cut through his heart. He was so afraid that his knees were trembling.
- Spoiled and protected since birth by his parents, Christian and Hayley, he was already thirty but had never been through any pain. Now that his heart was pointed by a knife, he was so flustered that he almost cried.
- BAM!
- Suddenly, the door of the study room burst open with a strong kick. Outside the door, Emmanuel stood with Mr. Bell, and in front of him was Wyatt in a wheelchair.
- The sunlight poured in from behind Wyatt and covered him in a golden light.
- Is he… here to save me? Summer thought with a pounding heart as she stared at the man with the black silk cloth over his eyes.
- “Ow! Help! Somebody’s dying here!” Winston screamed next to her out of the blue.
- With a frown, Summer recollected herself and saw that the knife in her hand had cut a hole in his shirt, and blood was now streaming through his white shirt as he wailed and held his hand over the oozing blood.
- The veins on her forehead twitched. It’s merely a small cut judging from the blood flow. Is there really a need to scream so loudly? Plus, I didn’t even move at all...
- “Send him to the hospital,” Wyatt said coldly with furrowed brows.
- Mr. Bell nodded and comforted Summer, saying, “Madam, don’t blame this on yourself. He wanted to escape while you were not paying attention and grazed himself because he misjudged the position.”
- Speechless, she wondered how could Winston be so stupid.
- A minute later, Emmanuel carried and sent a wailing Winston to the hospital.
- “The cut isn’t deep, looking at the amount of blood,” Summer began and bit her lip. “I didn’t hurt any of his internal organs.” Pacing over tentatively, she stood behind Wyatt and asked, “I hurt him… Would Grandpa blame me for it?”
- “Are you afraid?”
- Shaking her head, she replied, “No, because I did nothing wrong.”
- Chuckling helplessly, he asked, “Are you alright?”
- “I’m fine.” Putting the switchblade away, she added, “When did you arrive?”
- “That minute when you said you’ll be the one to protect me.”
- Summer was tongue-tied and cleared her throat. Picking up her backpack, she went into the hallway and put away her belongings which she had salvaged earlier.
- “Are you alright, Summer?” Harper cried with bloodshot eyes as she helped her to put away her stuff. “Earlier, I was really worried that he would…”
