Chapter 6 Successful Surgery

• Charlotte woke up the next morning at the same time the sun was coming up. She rolled on the bed and when she realized how soft it was - she jumped with a start.
• The bed was not the hard one she had gotten used to sleeping on after being driven out of the Enfield family house.
• She looked around the strange room she was in with a frown on her beautiful face. Then everything that happened yesterday came rushing back to her.
• She replaced her sister and got married to her sister's fiancé who was a cripple and had a scar on his face not that she has seen it; he was wearing a mask on their wedding day.
• They were supposed to spend the night together as it was their wedding night but her husband thought differently because from looking at the other side of the bed there was no indentation there.
• He did not return home last night nor did he come to the room. She slept alone. She was somehow relieved as she was not ready to fulfill her duties as a wife yet.
• She got up from the bed and went directly to the bathroom to take a hot bath in the tub. She sighed and relaxed back, it's been so long since she has enjoyed soaking up in a warm bath.
• She could not stay long in the tub because she had to go and see her mother to be sure that her father had taken care of the bills.
• She also did not want her mother to notice her absence and panic. She was given a little holiday by her boss so she did not have to go to work till two days.
• When she came out of the bathroom she met some servants already tidying up the room.
• They stopped whatever they were doing to greet her but she just nodded and asked them to continue. Since she had not brought her clothes she had to order some cheap clothes she could find online.
• "Mrs. Moore your clothes have arrived" One of the servants came inside to give the gown she ordered to her.
• "Thank you" She collected the clothes and quickly dressed up
• She did not know her way around the house so she was grateful when after opening the door she sighted a servant who showed her the way out.
• An older woman approached her and asked her to eat as her breakfast was ready.
• After eating, Charlotte rushed out of the house but was stopped by two bodyguards.
• "Young madam good morning I am Andrew and this is Peter," one of them said as he pointed at the other person.
• "here are you going? We have been assigned to accompany you anywhere you want to go", Andrew said.
• Charlotte waved the both of them away "Don't worry about me I am not going far."
• The two of them remained standing in front of her like a brick wall "We are sorry madam it's either we go with you or you remain in the house", Andrew said again and Charlotte quickly concluded that he must be the boss of the other one.
• She knew that arguing would only waste her time. Since her husband asked them to accompany her then he must care or he just wanted to protect her because she now belongs to his family.
• "OK, fine you both can come with me but try to stay out of my way as much as possible," she told them.
• "Yes, madam" both of them chorused.
• She was led to a car and when she told them that she was going to the hospital they both paused to look at her but they wisely did not ask any questions and instead started the car and turned it in the direction of the hospital she told them she was going to.
• The first thing Charlotte did when she got to the hospital was to rush to see the doctor in charge of her mother's case.
• After knocking she entered and the first thing she asked was about her mother's surgery "Doctor how did my mother's surgery go?"
• "Good morning to you too Miss Enfield and yes there is good news. A man came here yesterday to pay your mother's bills and we did the surgery, it was successful."
• "Ha thank God" Charlotte sighed in relief. "Is she awake now? Can I see her?" She rushed to ask.
• "Of course, you can see she is out of the theater but she was shifted to another room this morning because according to the man…"
• "Which room" she interrupted the doctor when she felt that he was beginning to talk too much.
• When the doctor saw that she was anxious he quickly told he the room number and gave her directions he watched as she rushed out of his office.
• Charlotte came to a stop in front of the room she was directed to in shock, VIP? Her father had her mother transferred to a VIP room.
• Was it even possible? Was he already trying to appease her so that he would be able to ask her anything and she would do it? Was her stepmother even aware of this?
• She shook her head to rid herself of the thoughts before opening the door and walking inside.
• Her mother was lying on the bed in the middle of the hospital room, she was not sharing it with anyone, and if she did not know that she was in the hospital she would have thought that she was in a five-star hotel.
• She walked inside and moved a chair to her mother's bedside to sit close to her. Her mother's eyes were closed and she seemed to be sleeping peacefully.
• She smiled she reached out to caress her mother's face pushing the hair that was on her face away.
• Her mother was fine at last and she could have peace for now. Her hand dropped when she realized that her mother did not know of her marriage.
• Will her mother be happy, will she accept and bless her marriage? Well, there was nothing she and her mother could do about her marriage because she knew that there was no way she could divorce her husband.
• They have to make it work one way or the other. She still had it in mind to repay her father double of everything he did to both her and her mother but now she has changed her mind. She wanted nothing more from him again, all she wanted now was peace.
• "Mom?" She called out when she saw her mother move her hands, she sat up in her seat "Mom can you hear me?"
• "Ch.. Charlotte?" Emily's voice crooked out.
• "Am here Mom " She reached out and took the water from her mother's bedside and after helping her mother sit up on the bed she helped her drink the water.
• "How are you feeling mother?" She asked.
• "Am okay now" her mother turned her head to look at her "How did you get money for my surgery?" Emily's eyes held anxiousness.
• "Mom, why would you ask that now? All that matters is that you are okay, let's talk about this when you are finally healthy", Charlotte told her mother.
• "I am hungry", Emily let the topic drop when she saw that her daughter was not willing to talk. She knew that her daughter was headstrong and stubborn like her father. If she wanted to say something she would and if she did not? No one could force her
• "Okay, Mother let me go and get you something to eat."
• She walked out of the room and bumped into one of the bodyguards, she jumped in shock and nearly fell because she was not expecting anyone to be there but the bodyguard was quick to catch her.
• "Am sorry young Madam are you okay?" Peter asked anxiously he was the one she bumped into, his eyes held fear.
• Charlotte held her forehead in pain she was sure that she was bleeding already since she had soft skin and her forehead hit the strong button on his shirt "I am fine" She nodded she turned her face the other way to hide it from the guard.
• "Is there anything you need?" Peter asked again.
• "Yes my mother is hungry I need to get her food", Charlotte answered her face still turned the other way.
• "We can get it for you madam please return inside." Andrew then asked her for the exact food she wanted before he led her back into the room.
• "You did not get the food again?" Emily asked her daughter when she saw her return empty-handed.
• "I asked someone to get it for me" Charlotte gave her mother a tight smile.
• " What happened to your head?" Her mother was quick to notice the little wound.
• "It's nothing, Mom, I just bumped into someone", she wiped her forehead clean from the blood.
• "Well better get it treated."
• "Okay I will" she assured her mother with a small smile
• In no time Andrew returned with everything she asked for and bless his heart he knocked and allowed her to go out and get the food.
• She did not know how she was going to explain who Andrew was to her mother so she was really happy when he had the sixth sense to wait for her to get the food at the door instead of entering the room when he could.
• She knew that she wouldn't be able to hide her marriage from her mother for a long time but for now, she just wanted her mother to get better.
