Chapter 1
- "You are pregnant."
- A smile broke out from her pale lips as the pack's doctor recited the words to her hearing.
- "I am?" She asked slowly, her smile widening as if she had just heard the best news of the year. Her hands impulsively moved to her stomach and she chuckled slowly, running her hand over it.
- There was a baby in there, there was something growing in her stomach, another life. A life that she would love and made sure had no problems.
- "Who is the father of your baby?" The doctor asked, slowly, reluctantly.
- "Alpha Shane." She couldn't wait to relay the news to her mate, Alpha Shane. He was the best thing that had happened to her ever since she was born, as an omega in a strong pack.
- She had faced a lot of rejections and bullying from other members of the pack, but when Alpha Shane found out they were mate, she was scared he would reject her.
- He didn't though, instead he accepted her and showed her love in different dimensions, except he refused to reveal it to the pack that they were mates. No pack would want an omega as their Luna.
- But if she was pregnant, if she had a baby for the Alpha Lord, no one would dare to question her authority. That was what Shane had promised her. That promise, he would keep.
- She hopped to their secret hideout, a cave in the mountains, smiling foolishly to everyone along the way. They hated her, but soon she was going to have the upper hand.
- All the respect given to Shane's girlfriend, Doreen, who was just a facade would soon be hers. She was going to be Shane's wife. Her life would finally start up, start up as someone important in the society.
- She waited patiently for Shane, tapping her feet rhythmically with a smile on her face. She wondered how excited he would look, how smiles would break out from his hand some face. She pursed her lips excitedly, her hands running over her stomach again, again and again.
- She heard noises at the entrance of the cave and she waited patiently, her smile widening as Shane came inside.
- She blinked when other people suddenly followed behind him, entering into the cave too, Doreen inclusive.
- She was now more excited, Shane had brought all these people here to introduce to them his mate, their new Luna. She could see that each of them had a look of disgust plastered on their faces but once they had what Shane would say, they would all be shocked.
- She waited patiently for him to start talking as he got closer to her.
- "Joey..." He called slowly, when he got to her and she pursed her lips as her name rolled out of his mouth.
- She couldn't wait to share her news but she wanted him to speak first.
- "This is so bad, Joey." He said and she blinked. What was so bad?
- "I can't have a mate like you." He said, breaking the ice. Joey smiled, chuckling slowly.
- "Of course. You can't wait to have me as a wife." She said, her eyes beaming with clear lights.
- "Wife?" Shane scoffed and the others laughed slowly, Doreen moved forward and held Shane's arm, intertwining their hands together.
- "Baby..." Shane looked at Doreen affectionately and she smiled. They were acting all lovey dovey further confusing Joey. This wasn't the time for their facade. This was where Shane needed to reveal that she was the rightful Luna to the pack. That she was going to be his wife.
- "Shane, what are you..." A slap on Joey's face made her gasp, her lips bursting as Shane's rigid hand landed on her cheek hardly.
- "It's Alpha to you." He said coldly and when Joey raised her head to look up at him, she could find any of the affection he claimed to have for her. There was nothing in his eyes except coldness, hatred and the sudden urge for evil power.
- Joey decided to try her last chance. She was going to reveal it.
- "Alpha.. " She called slowly, her hands beside her as she looked at everyone boldly. This was going to work. She knew it would.
- "I'm pregnant." She said and Doreen laughed funnily staring at her stomach.
- "Are you trying to say there's a little thing growing in there?" She chuckled.
- "Yes." Joey said, unfazed.
- "And that little thing is my baby."
- Doreen looked at Shane and he stared at Joey hatefully.
- "That's not my baby. I only have one child and it's growing in Doreen's womb." He said.
- That broke the last straw of Joey's fragile heart. Shane had promised not to have anything to do with Doreen. He had promised they would only be the lovers the town talked about. Nothing more, if anything, it was to be less.
- "What are you saying..." She choked out, unable to breath as hot tears rushed out of her eyes slowly.
- "Joey Simmons, you have deceived the Alpha King, also thereby, deceiving the pack as a whole. You have also lied to him. You have disrespected our pack rules and gotten entangled with the Alpha Lord, making our pack a laughing stick. You have said false things against the Alpha and have spread rumours about him being the father of your bastard unborn child. As a consequence, you are to be killed by drowning." The scroll handler read directly, not giving Joey any chance to speak.
- "I'm not guilty of any of those offences. It's true that Alpha Shane is my mate and I am pregnant with his child!!" She shot, moving back slowly, into the cave.
- She was going to protect her baby, she had too. Even if Shane had deceived and betrayed her, she was going to take care of her little one.
- The guards moved closer towards her and Joey, turned back finally running into the dark cave. She had never ventured to go deep into the cave in her life.
- There was a myth that whoever goes too deep into the cave would never come back the same, probably dead. Joey had stayed clear of the cave until when Shane had proposed that they meet there always.
- It was here they shared love, here they had sex multiple times, he had given her love bites that had contributed to the bullying she got on the street. But never did he try to mark her, never had he tried that.
- Joey ran like her whole life depended on it but the darkness was ending and she was visible to the wolves behind her in the light again. At the end of the cave, there was not only the bright lights off the sun, there was also the waves of rushing water, that poured from the top of the cave to a large body beneath it.
- This was her punishment. Her punishment for not sticking to where she was meant to be. A punishment for dreaming to be accepted, dreaming to be known, for dreaming to be in an higher position. For dreaming of finding love.
- A gasp escaped her lips as she felt Shane's hand on her shoulder, pushing her into the endless waves of water.
- She let out a scream as she got into the water. She wasn't a swimmer, she had never tried to swim in her life. Now she regretted it, she had failed to save her baby. Her eyes closed as she felt herself drown.
