Chapter 4 A Gift From the Crime Lord
- Meanwhile, the people from the Sullivan family were already mouthing their prayers.
- Before they could even beg for mercy, that kid was already calling Tigre "heartless"!
- Not only would the family go bankrupt, but someone was bound to lose their life.
- That person was really bad luck!
- Arnold nearly blew his top. He could not even speak a word.
- Another guest abruptly appeared at the door. "Happy birthday, Grandpa Sullivan! I wish you good health and a long life!… Huh? You're here too, Lord Tigre. What's up with the coffin?"
- Daryl's eyes lit up when he saw the sudden guest.
- That person was Ferdinand Krauss, the son of the owner of Krauss Corporation.
- Krauss Corporation was the biggest client of the Sullivan family business. They were very influential, and they had connections with both the police and the criminal underworld.
- Daryl hoped Ferdinand could help them out with the crisis they were facing. He grinned and said, "Why are you here, Ferdie? Come in and have a seat."
- "Mr. Sullivan! I'm here to celebrate Grandpa Sullivan's birthday. At the same time, I would like to propose to Hazel…"
- "I'm sorry, Mr. Krauss. I'm already married," Hazel said hastily.
- "What?" Ferdinand was shocked. "With who?"
- Hazel pointed at Vance. "Him."
- Ferdinand sized up Vance. His hostility was palpable.
- Tigre and his men were surprised to find out that the miracle doctor was Hazel's husband. They were not going to pick a fight with the Sullivan family if that were the case.
- "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry!" Tigre said. "I didn't expect that Mr. Krauss is a part of the Sullivan family! We are so sorry to intrude upon the festivities. We'll be leaving now. Bye!"
- Tigre and his men hastily left the scene. The people from the Sullivan family stood there, unable to process the sudden turn of events.
- Lord Tigre was so angry just now. Why did he retreat all of a sudden? Could he be afraid of that kid? But that kid is an ex-con! Why would the second-in-command of the Desperados be afraid of him?
- "Do you know Tigre?" Hazel whispered to Vance.
- "Mm. I gave him a second chance at life," Vance answered truthfully.
- Curing Tigre's impotence was just like giving him a second chance at life, though the Sullivan family members did not understand.
- Daryl suddenly knocked his head and said excitedly, "Aha, I know! It's all thanks to you, Ferdie! Thank you for saving all of us!"
- Ferdinand seemed confused. He had just arrived at the scene without knowing what was going on.
- "Earlier, Ferdie said he wanted to propose to Hazel," Daryl explained. "Tigre must have thought Ferdie is already part of the family. We all know Ferdie holds a lot of power in Krauss Corporation. It's not out of the question if Tigre doesn't want to offend Ferdie."
- "Ah, Tigre must be afraid of my second uncle," Ferdinand said. "I don't think I've told you yet, but my second uncle has just been promoted to district police chief. It goes without saying that gangsters are most afraid of the police."
- The Sullivan family members seemed to have understood.
- "So Tigre was referring to Ferdie!"
- "Heh, that ex-con nearly deceived all of us!"
- "In any case, that hermit or this ex-con isn't one percent as good as Ferdie. Ferdie has to be the best choice of husband for Hazel."
- Even Hazel rolled her eyes at Vance. "I don't mind if you're useless, but you have to be honest."
- Vance could not be bothered to argue. In any case, he wanted to minimize his interactions with the Sullivan family.
- Daryl ushered Ferdinand into the living room. "Don't worry, Ferdie. Hazel is only putting up a show with her marriage. They'll divorce in a couple of days. No one other than you can be my son-in-law."
- Arnold sighed. He wished Master Crane's disciple could be Hazel's husband.
- However, if Master Crane's disciple could not be found, Ferdinand was not a bad choice.
- As for Vance, he did not even deserve to come into the picture.
- Vance did not want to linger any longer there. He left the mansion, hailed a cab, and went to Nimbus Hills.
- Nimbus Hills was a mountainous area dotted with lakes and a variety of natural features. It was a famous high-end residential area in Chevron.
- The most high-class residence in the area was called the Zenith Mansion.
- That was where Vance was heading. Donald Wiltmoor, the crime lord, had gifted him the Zenith Mansion before Vance left prison.
- Unfortunately for Vance, he had lost the electronic key along with the marriage contract.
- The cab had to stop halfway up the hill as it could not enter the residential area. Vance had to walk the rest of the way.
- A few minutes later, Vance heard the sounds of a rumbling engine and something crashing behind him.
- He had an ominous feeling about this.
- Turning around, he saw an exorbitant-looking super sports car speeding toward him. It was out of control.
- Vance did not dodge. Instead, he channeled his covert force toward his fist and slammed down at the car.
- Boom!
- The shockwave from the punch even blew away leaves and pebbles around him.
- A huge smoking crater appeared in the front part of the sports car. The other end was hanging in mid-air.
- Vance managed to stop the car. He remained unscathed. In fact, he did not even move an inch from where he was standing.
- Huffing angrily, he went to the driver's seat and opened the door.
- The driver was a woman. She was unconscious.
- She was beautiful and slender, and she was dressed in standard office wear and a pair of red leather shoes.
- Obviously, she was the CEO of some corporation.
- Vance frowned. He could sense something unnaturally cold swirling within the woman's chest.
- This is… frigid force? She has an extremely rare body type! Did she pass out because the frigid force erupted within her?
