Chapter 6 Protecting Her Man
- Olivia froze on the spot. She was slightly confused and panicked, so she subconsciously avoided eye contact. Emma was also extremely nervous. She didn't know how much Nathan had heard. However, she regained her confidence upon recalling the Carter family's hostility towards Olivia and her impending engagement with Nathan.
- She put on her usual gentle smile before walking over and grabbing his arm affectionately. She said coyly, "Nathan, why did you come out? Did you come to greet me because you knew I was coming?" Nathan didn't respond, but he didn't shake her hand away either. His deep eyes were fixed on the figure outside the door. She had slimmed down, grown taller, matured, and become more elegant!
- When he came out, he heard Olivia congratulating Emma casually and indifferently. It was pretty different from his impression of her. Beside her… stood a tall man with an imposing presence. He also had a refined and handsome appearance. He stood upright behind Olivia as if protecting her! Nathan thought it was unsightly, and he was awfully irritated. He narrowed his eyes and said icily, "What's wrong? Don't you know this is the door? Do you need me to personally invite you in?"
- Olivia finally came to her senses. While in a daze, she had clenched her fists so tightly that she left marks in the palm of her hand. Her nails had almost pierced through her skin. She composed herself, and her expression was cold again. "I didn't plan to enter Carter Manor. Please bring Liam out, Mr. Carter! I'll leave immediately after picking him up." Her voice was distant and cold. She didn't even take a step forward.
- Nathan's pupils shrank, his gaze darkening and turning cold when he heard how she addressed and spoke to him coldly. He narrowed his eyes slightly and said coldly, "Do you think I told you to come here just to take him away? Since he's already appeared before me, that's absolutely impossible!"
- Olivia had a slightly tense expression. Does this mean he wants to take Liam away from me? She was about to remind Nathan that his fiancée was beside him when Emma couldn't stand it anymore. She tightly wrapped her arms around Nathan and asked, "Nathan, what are you talking about?"
- She had caught essential information from their brief conversation just now. Nathan had told Olivia to come here! She couldn't understand what they were saying and felt slightly flustered. She disliked being excluded.
- Nathan seemed to just notice her presence at this moment. He furrowed his brows and asked her, "Why are you here?" Emma's face paled slightly. She pretended to feel aggrieved and said, "I... I came to have breakfast with you."
- "You should leave. I'm busy," Nathan instructed. He pulled his hand back and seemed like he couldn't be bothered to pay her any attention. Emma instantly felt embarrassed and somewhat angry. Why should I leave? Are they going to reminisce after I leave? I won't allow it!
- "Nathan, let me stay. We have to try on engagement outfits today. Did you forget?" She spoke slightly coyly, but Nathan remained unmoved. Slight impatience flickered across his eyes. "Postpone it. We'll go another day. I'll have the driver take you home." He called out to the butler without waiting for her to respond. "Send Ms. Patel back."
- Emma knew she couldn't disobey Nathan once he made a decision. She couldn't help but feel resentful. Many years had passed. Although he hated Olivia, he still prioritized her every time. Her jealous emotions almost surfaced, but she dared not show it. Hence, she could only pretend to submit to Nathan. "Alright. I'll leave." After that, she reached out affectionately to help Nathan straighten his collar, playing the part of a gentle, devoted fiancée. Then, she turned around gracefully, entered the car, and left.
- Only Nathan, Olivia, and Benjamin remained at the scene. "Can we have a proper conversation now?" Nathan still spoke arrogantly, as though he was in complete control of the situation.
