Chapter 19
- I stood out there for a while as I could not get my friend on the phone. Then I decided that I should probably start moving in the direction of the junction when a car flashes its light behind me. I had not noticed it before but right now, I saw it was parked a few yards away from my home. It felt weird but I did not want to see who was in it or the type of car it was. I started walking briskly with my luggage and then I noticed it was following me steadily. I increased my pace as fear gripped me. Perhaps, Emilio had sent people after me or something because why on earth would a car be parked away from my home at such a strategic point today of all days and now following me steadily. A greater part of me was of the opinion that I should return home and apologize for my husband for my behavior earlier but there was this tiny stubborn part of me that would rather I see through everything he was clearly throwing my way. I got tired now as I was already beginning to sweat when I stopped moving as I waited for the car to draw nearer.
- A part of me was actually thinking it would stop following me and then some hefty men would come up from behind and drag a struggling me into the car but none of that happened. The car slowly drove up beside me but I resisted the urge to look. I had heard several times that it was way better not to look upon the face of one's assailant so that one could survive in the long run and at the very least, negotiate release.
- "Sam, please get in the car." The voice I had least expected said to me and I found myself turning to face him instantly.
