Chapter 7 My Precious Sweetheart

  • Raelynn quickly furrowed her brow; Felicity was akin to a bad penny, always showing up uninvited.
  • Her son, Reagan, who was always sharp, questioned worriedly, “Mommy, what's wrong?”
  • Snapping back to the present, Raelynn forced a slightly strained smile and reassured him, “I'm fine. Just a bit tired, that's all.”
  • Upon hearing her, Sophie immediately chimed in, “I apologize for being so impatient. The fatigue from all the traveling must have finally caught up with you.”
  • “It's fine, Sophie. Could you please take care of Rea and Heath for a moment? I need to go change my outfit.”
  • Sophie quickly agreed, prepared some snacks, and summoned the two youngsters to come and eat.
  • When Heather glimpsed the tempting food, her eyes sparkled with excitement.
  • With a gentle nudge from her brother, she finally positioned herself properly and said politely, “Thank you, Ms. Chapman.”
  • After serving his sister some snacks, Reagan faced Sophie with a grave look on his young face. “Ms. Chapman, could you do us a favor?”
  • Sophie, taken aback by his solemn tone, straightened up in response. “What is it? If it's something within my ability, I'll certainly assist.”
  • “Ms. Chapman, is it possible you could help us find a job suitable for kids?”
  • “A job?” Sophie echoed, surprised. “But why? You are both still so young.”
  • After swallowing a mouthful of her snack, Heather raised her hand and explained, “I understand, but Mommy has been working too hard. Reagan and I would like to find a job that pays so we can help alleviate some of her stress.”
  • Sophie was profoundly moved yet also heartbroken. Such young children, not even five years old, were already thinking about easing their mother's worries.
  • “Indeed, finding work wouldn't be too hard. With your adorable faces, you could easily sign with an agency and become popular child stars. You'd get lots of endorsements and make plenty of money...”
  • As Sophie spoke, the children's eyes lit up even more.
  • Suddenly, a woman's voice echoed from behind her.
  • “No, we can't have the kids go out and work for money.”
  • The moment they saw Raelynn, the children's spirits sank. They turned their hopeful eyes toward Sophie.
  • “Rae, many young talents are starting out early these days. Getting into the entertainment industry while young could really benefit their growth and development...”
  • Raelynn remained adamant, given her children's tender age. The world was too chaotic; she didn't want them exposed to the adult realities too early.
  • Raelynn approached the children and wrapped an arm around each, drawing them close, “Rea, Heath, I know you want to help with my burdens, but you're still just kids. I can look after you.”
  • “But Mommy, it was clear you didn't want to go to that audition.”
  • Reagan's subdued voice shook Raelynn's heart as she realized her son had noticed her distress.
  • She gently stroked his head. “I'm not upset. I was just reminiscing a bit.”
  • Raelynn had decided; she was going to the audition, determined to land the role of the second female lead. She needed the income, but it was also something she needed to do for herself. Now that she was back, it was no longer possible to keep dodging Felicity and the others.
