Chapter 31
- The meeting should’ve been done in an hour, but with my mind in a faraway place, it took twice as long. When it’s finally over, Poppy follows me back to my office and stops outside my door. “You’ve been holding out on me.”
- “Not now,” I say, unable to make sense of it myself. I’m not ready to talk about it. Besides, it’s late, and I need to head home. I tell her good night then open my door to grab my stuff.
- I gasp at the sight of Mateo sitting with his feet propped on my desk, and I quickly close the door behind me. “Have you been waiting in here the whole time?” I ask.
