Chapter 20
- ASK A MAN OUT
- Gage and Layla have a place in Atlanta, but they visit Savannah enough that they keep Layla’s cottage here to use when they’re in town. I step up to the front porch and find Gage sound asleep on the swing. Layla must see me coming and opens the front door. She has her finger over her mouth. “Shh!” she says. “He went out to check the mail an hour ago.”
- I walk inside and hug Layla. My brother did well marrying her. She’s one of my best friends and a beautiful woman inside and out. “You look . . .” I stop because I can barely breathe. My nose wrinkles up. I can’t help it. I know it’s the rudest thing ever, but something smells terrible.
