Chapter 10 The Unyielding Defiance

  • "Are you doing this on purpose? Do you have any idea who I am? Name your price!"
  • Sullivan glared at the arrogant girl, feeling sorry for her sweet appearance.
  • "I've already said I'm not selling it, so I'm not selling it!"
  • Sullivan put away the Quantum Needles and hesitated for a moment. Then he took out the last 75 bucks from his pocket and placed it on the counter.
  • "Look, I'm really short on cash. This is all I have left. Please take it. I promise I'll use the needles well."
  • When Elias, who had been silent, heard Sullivan's words, a smile appeared on his old face hidden under the straw hat.
  • It's worth all those years of waiting ...
  • After Sullivan walked away, Fawn followed him.
  • "So, what will it take to get you to sell those silver needles to me?" Fawn asked, still persistent.
  • "Can you stop following me? Didn't you hear? These silver needles are mine!"
  • Sullivan stopped in annoyance.
  • How could this girl be so relentless?
  • "Fine, I'll remember you. Trying to take things from me? Just don't let me see you again!"
  • Fawn, frustrated, stamped her foot and ran off.
  • Sullivan didn't think much about the little incident with Fawn. He went home with the Quantum Needles and spent the whole night working on the techniques.
  • After a sleepless night and almost poking himself silly, he finally got the hang of the Quantum Needles.
  • In the morning, Sullivan noticed that Lavinia hadn't shown up to make him breakfast.
  • "Hey? Where's Lavinia?"
  • Sullivan wondered. Since he lost his sight, Lavinia had come to take care of him every day, no matter what. Even if she couldn't come herself, she'd send a neighbour or one of her staff. So why was there no news today?
  • Something's off here!
  • Sullivan thought to himself. He put on his hat, grabbed his cane, and headed out.
  • "Lavinia, you have three days to move out. If you don't, I'll make sure you regret it!"
  • A group of people blocked the entrance to the Quinns' courtyard. The leader, a young man in his twenties, was pointing a finger at Lavinia.
  • "Edgar, I can't move out. This is my home!" Lavinia replied.
  • Lavinia didn't back down at all in front of the group of men.
  • "Your home? Not a chance! This house belongs to the Thorns. My cousin left it to us, so what does it have to do with you?" Edgar Thorn said.
  • "I'm your cousin's wife, your cousin-in-law. So what does that make it to me?" Lavinia shot back.
  • Lavinia lived next to Sullivan's—one at the end of the street and the other in the alley, on the same street. Lavinia's house was also about to be demolished.
  • "Cousin-in-law? Everyone knows your husband died not long after you married him. I've heard you've already hooked up with that blind guy from the Carvers. How can you even face your late husband?
  • "If you don't leave today, I'll make sure everyone knows what a lowlife you are—going after a blind guy who's years younger than you!
  • "I'll ruin your reputation!"
  • Edgar sneered. He didn't want to make things difficult for a widow, but he had no choice. He owed a lot of money, and someone had told him that if he could get Lavinia's house, he'd get the relocation funds.
  • "You're talking nonsense! I've always treated Sulli like a brother!"
  • Lavinia was shaking with anger, but she felt powerless against the group of men.
  • "Brother? I'm your cousin-in-law. Why aren't you taking care of me?
  • "I know my brother died young and you're lonely. If you don't want to move out, that's fine. Just come with me, and we can still be a family ... "
  • Edgar looked at Lavinia, who was attractive and had a great figure, and started having inappropriate thoughts.
  • His cousin was unlucky—he married such a beautiful woman but died young.
  • "Edgar, you j*rk!"
  • Lavinia raised her hand to slap Edgar, but he grabbed her wrist.
  • "Wow, sis-in-law, your hands are so smooth and fair," Edgar said, greedily touching Lavinia's hand.
  • He wanted to have a taste of her.
  • "You j*rk!"
  • Lavinia struggled to break free.
  • "Don't worry, Lavinia. I'm young and strong, and I'll take good care of you," Edgar said with a smirk.
  • When Sullivan showed up, he saw Edgar holding Lavinia's wrist with one hand and reaching for her face with the other.
  • "Lavinia!" Sullivan said, feeling a pang of concern at her angry and embarrassed look.
  • "What are you doing here? Sulli, this isn't your problem. Go back!"
  • Lavinia tried to pull Sullivan away from the scene.
  • "Well, look at this. The blind guy from the Carvers. You think you're some kind of hero trying to save the day?" Edgar taunted.
  • Edgar walked over to Sullivan and snatched the cane from his hand, wanting to see him embarrassed.
  • "So what if I'm blind? You think a blind guy can't make you suffer?"
  • Edgar tried to pull the cane away but couldn't budge it.
  • "Wow, little blind guy, you're stronger than I thought. Make me suffer? Haha!"
  • Edgar laughed so hard he bent over, as if he'd heard the funniest joke.
