Chapter 2 The Jade Pendant's Secret

  • Seeing that the situation was exposed, Benedict dropped the pretence. He coldly watched Sullivan, who was flailing his arms like a madman.
  • "Sullivan, is it a bit too late for you to want to kill me now?"
  • Benedict said, kicking Sullivan in the stomach.
  • Bam!
  • Sullivan staggered and fell to the ground.
  • "Why? Why are you doing this, Benedict? I treated you like my own brother. Why are you betraying me like this?"
  • Sullivan gritted his teeth, enduring the pain.
  • "A brother? Sullivan, you say you treated me like a brother, but you wouldn't even give me a jade pendant. If you treated me like family, why wouldn't you share your money and your wife?"
  • Jade pendant?
  • Sullivan finally understood why Benedict was doing this.
  • He had a jade pendant he'd worn around his neck since he was a child. When he was ten, Benedict had wanted the pendant, but Sullivan refused to give it—so he'd harboured this grudge against Sullivan all these years.
  • "What did I ever do to wrong you, Viola?"
  • Sullivan turned his question towards Viola.
  • "You haven't wronged me at all. But you're about to get millions from demolishing your property, and your mother wouldn't even give me 450 thousand dollars as a betrothal gift. But Benedict is different; he's willing to give!"
  • Hearing their words, Sullivan spat out a mouthful of blood, his whole body feeling like a broken kite.
  • "Fine, you're doing very well!"
  • Sullivan felt as if his heart had turned to ashes.
  • "Didn't you know? That shabby jade pendant you thought was a betrothal gift has been hanging around my neck all this time. I thought it was worth something, but it's not even worth 15 dollars. Here, take it back!"
  • Benedict said, ripping the jade pendant from his neck and throwing it at Sullivan's face.
  • In that instant, Sullivan used his keen hearing to locate Benedict and lunged at him, sinking his teeth into his arm.
  • "Ah!"
  • A scream of pain pierced the air. Benedict struggled wildly, but Sullivan, having lost all hope of survival, bit down with a reckless determination, refusing to let go despite Benedict's fists and kicks.
  • "Get off, you blind b*stard!"
  • Bam!
  • Viola grabbed a lamp and smashed it over Sullivan's head. Instantly, blood splattered, streaming down his neck.
  • Thud.
  • Sullivan collapsed on the ground, his eyes glazed over.
  • "He's dead, Benedict! I've killed him. I've killed Sullivan."
  • Viola stood frozen in panic.
  • "Stop yelling! Do you want everyone to know what happened?"
  • Benedict covered Viola's mouth.
  • "Let's go quickly!"
  • The two of them fled, leaving the body behind without even bothering to deal with it.
  • No one saw the jade pendant fall to the ground beside Sullivan.
  • The green jade pendant lay in the pool of blood with Sullivan, and it seemed like the blood was drawn into the pendant as if it had a mind of its own.
  • The jade pendant gradually turned blood red and began to emit a dazzling red light, enveloping Sullivan before slowly fading away.
  • As the last glimmer of red light vanished, it all entered Sullivan's body. The blood on the ground seemed to be meticulously cleaned up, disappearing without a trace.
  • At the same time, Sullivan's mind was suddenly filled with a voice.
  • I am the first ancestor of the Carvers. Your blood has awakened the last fragment of my soul residing in the jade pendant. I shall impart to you the ancient secrets technique of the Carvers, the Arcane Scriptures, cultivation methods, and the Spectral Vision.'
  • Sullivan felt a flood of images crashing into his mind like they would open his head.
  • "Ah!"
  • Sullivan screamed in agony.
  • "Sullivan, you're finally awake."
  • When Sullivan woke up, he felt a heavy fog in his head, as if he had accumulated a bunch of memories that didn't belong to him. Plus, a strange energy flowed through his limbs and body, and it felt incredibly soothing.
  • His mind was filled with characters and images as he closed his eyes. Were the Arcane Scriptures real?
  • When Sullivan opened his eyes again, he saw Lavinia sitting by his bed. This ...
  • Lavinia was not wearing any clothes!
  • Her stunning figure was fully exposed. Sullivan saw everything clearly, and his already agitated emotions surged even more, his breathing becoming rapid!
  • Wait!
  • He could see!
  • "Sullivan, you're having a nosebleed!"
  • Lavinia bent over in a panic, wiping the blood from Sullivan's nose. Her body pressed against Sullivan's face, and a mature woman's unique, intoxicating scent filled his senses, making him lose his composure.
  • "You silly, lying here alone and Viola nowhere to be seen. Are you feeling unwell?"
  • Lavinia's gentle voice brought Sullivan back to his senses.
  • Viola!
  • He sneered to himself. So this is the kind of wife I have! Not only is she cheating on me, but she also wants me to pick up the pieces and deal with her problems. She even plotted to kill me.
